- Public Accounts Committee: 2015 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
UCC: Financial Statements 2013-2014 (30 Mar 2017) Alan Kelly: It seems extraordinary that €7.4 million was spent on travel and subsistence and only €2.2 million was spent on books and journals. For a university, about which I am quite passionate, it seems extraordinary, but I accept what Mr. Collins said. Why did the accounts not distinguish between staff and travel costs funded by research funding and staff and travel costs funded by...

- Public Accounts Committee: 2015 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
UCC: Financial Statements 2013-2014 (30 Mar 2017) Alan Kelly: I suggest that the university finds a way of providing that in its accounts in future because it is important. With regard to retired staff who have been brought back on occasion to do some work, I understand this was in breach of the university's employment control framework, ECF, and that a considerable number of individuals are contractually entitled to be paid for the work they did....

- Public Accounts Committee: 2015 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
UCC: Financial Statements 2013-2014 (30 Mar 2017) Alan Kelly: Regarding Cork Savings Bank on Lapps Quay, Cork City Council purchased it in 2014 for €600,000 and University College Cork purchased it for €1.42 million from the council in 2016. There was €800,000 of a difference in the purchase price in less than two years. How is that justified?

- Public Accounts Committee: 2015 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
UCC: Financial Statements 2013-2014 (30 Mar 2017) Alan Kelly: I had some questions regarding the Irish Management Institute, IMI, but Mr. Collins has answered them in response to questions from Deputy Cullinane. There are no pension liabilities on the books as regards the taking over of that. Is that correct?
- Public Accounts Committee: 2015 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
UCC: Financial Statements 2013-2014 (30 Mar 2017) Alan Kelly: There are no pension liabilities at all. In terms of what the university has purchased, and it was trying to fill a gap - I agree with Mr. Collins that there was a deficit and I say that as somebody who had to go to UCD after having spent five years in UCC - has the university any intention of disposing of any of the lands in Sandyford?

- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (30 Mar 2017)
Alan Kelly: I concur. We should address this matter separately in the next private meeting but we need to reflect on this because this changes a lot. We need to decide if we will try to change Standing Orders to ensure that what we decide, based on our judgment, can be published.

- Brexit: Statements (Resumed) (5 Apr 2017)
Alan Kelly: I agree with many of the previous speaker's comments. I accept her passion on this issue. It would have been great if her party had campaigned on Brexit in Northern Ireland. It would have been welcome, given the passion with which she has spoken about the issue this evening. Her party did not even register as a political entity to campaign in the referendum. If it had done so, the Deputy...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: General Scheme of Road Traffic (Fixed Penalty - Drink Driving) Bill 2017: Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport (5 Apr 2017)
Alan Kelly: I will not go over previous question as I am sure the Minister and his officials, who I served with and know well, will be pleased to hear. To begin light-heartedly, the Minister once told me, during some banter in the Dáil, that I would never be elected in Dublin 4 and that he would never be elected in Tipperary. In the context of this legislation, the latter is certainly true. The...
