Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: I have listened to the debate today and how the deal was announced, but the fact is that we do not know the full details. It has been a case of drip-feed. The fact is that Government backbenchers, including Labour Party backbenchers and others, are being briefed, while Parliament still does not have the full context in terms of the due diligence process that was carried out. The Nyras...

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: We have a situation where even the benches are empty.

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: There is no rebel left in the Labour Party on that issue. I have listened to the debate and looked at the previous proposal made when IAG first pounced on Aer Lingus. I have looked at the proposals made today inasmuch as I can and find that there is no difference. The Minister of State, Deputy Michael Ring, comes from the west. He knows full well that if he took a heifer to the fair in...

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: When one examines the statistics, one sees that Aer Lingus carried 11.1 million passengers in 2014. I remind the Minister of State, as he keeps reminding us, that we have gone through a very difficult recession, both nationally and internationally. It was one of the worst among OECD countries, yet Aer Lingus increased passenger numbers. In recent years, its passenger number has increased...

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: All will be announced on this side of the election and the Government will say it has the money to carry out the investment, but it will not acknowledge the fact that the money will have been obtained by selling a State asset. Aer Lingus has been successful. Deputy Michael Ring is the Minister of State responsible for promoting this country and travels the world to do so. Aer Lingus is...

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: What have we now?

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: There is a commitment that the company will not be sold for seven years. Let us be very honest-----

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: The bottom line is that the Government side was marching week in, week out, on the streets of Limerick contending that the sale of Aer Lingus was a disgrace.

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: What the Government is doing now is selling the remaining 25% stake that was retained for the purpose of guaranteeing connectivity and accessibility and that staff-----

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: The Members on the Government side should look at the placards they held up in 2006 in O'Connell Street in Limerick. In the context of Cork, it is critical that we retain access to Heathrow, Amsterdam and Charles de Gaulle airports. That is of considerable importance. I see nothing in this other than glib commentary to the effect that we will continue to develop those routes. This is...

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: Is the Minister talking about Roscommon hospital?

Midland Regional Hospital: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: That is not true.

Midland Regional Hospital: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: The Taoiseach obviously did not read it so when he made the promise that he would keep it open.

Midland Regional Hospital: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: The Taoiseach obviously did not read it so when he made the promise to keep it open.

Midland Regional Hospital: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: I welcome the contributions from all sides of the House. I read the Minister's speech again this morning, in which he mentioned that we should not play politics with this issue. I certainly was very reluctant to go down the political route without first having listened to the testimonies of the families and read the indepth reports of the CMO and HIQA but I would be failing in my duties if...

Midland Regional Hospital: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: Yes, but somewhere along the line the decision was made to take Portlaoise hospital out of the small hospital framework, even though it had been included for that specific reason. Four year later we find that HIQA's report makes the very same recommendation made previously in the context of the Mallow and Ennis hospitals reports which fed into the small hospitals framework. The Minister,...

Written Answers — Department of Environment, Community and Local Government: Election Management System (27 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: 200. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if, under electoral laws and regulations for presiding officers or poll clerks, a voter without proof of identity can be asked to swear an oath on a bible as a means of confirming identity and if it can be decided to provide a ballot paper to the voter on the basis of whether or not the oath is taken. [21052/15]

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: General Practitioner Contracts (28 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: 1. To ask the Minister for Health if he will provide an update on the implementation of free general practitioner, GP, care for the under sixes; the number of GPs who have signed up to the new contract; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21016/15]

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: General Practitioner Contracts (28 May 2015)

Billy Kelleher: Will the Minister of State elaborate on this matter? My question arises on the back of the extension of the deadline, which I assume arises because there has not been a large uptake. There are genuine concerns that a large number of GPs do not find this contract as attractive as it might be.
