Séamus McGrath: Thank you. With regard to upcoming projects, accessibility and the EU Presidency, are not going to involve any expenditure in terms of capital works, are they?
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: There are no capital works necessary for the Houses of the Oireachtas.
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: Okay. The €4.7 million in annual leave accruals was mentioned. To be clear: it is not the case that anyone is paid in lieu of annual leave.
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: That is perfect.
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: So it is just an issue of carryover and accrual-----
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: That is fine, absolutely. For the return of the Dáil now and the new security operation, for example, who foots the Bill for that?
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: Absolutely, and I am not underestimating the task there because you are as good as the last incident, if you like, and they do a good job as well to be fair.
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: Do we have any estimated cost of the likes of the operation involved for the return of the Dáil? Do we have an estimated cost for that?
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: It is not a low cost anyway, when you physically see the presence of gardaí and the operation involved. It is a matter of public interest how much an operation like that costs in providing that security which is absolutely necessary but I do think it is a matter of public interest. An Garda Síochána does not charge the State for that service.
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (25 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: I am getting caught for time so I will move on. On the broadcasting workers, I am not going to go over old ground here but just to add my voice to that, I have also met and spoken to them and I take Mr. Finnegan's bona fides. He was quite open in his own personal views and so on. For me, it is just the reality of the casualisation of work taking place within the Houses of the Oireachtas....
- Investment in Sport and Sporting Infrastructure: Statements (1 Oct 2025)
Séamus McGrath: I thank the Minister of State for facilitating this debate. In this House, there often are very different opinions on matters discussed. The one thing we can all agree on is the positive benefits of sport, which are vast. I always make the point that sport is a great character-building hobby for young people and individuals. It helps them tremendously through their self-development and...
- Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Vacant Properties (1 Oct 2025)
Séamus McGrath: 97. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if consideration will be given to extending the first home scheme to include the purchase of vacant properties, applying the same conditions as the croí cónaithe towns scheme in terms of properties vacant for at least two years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. - Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community: Child Protection and Family Support: Discussion (2 Oct 2025)
Séamus McGrath: I apologise to Ms Joyce and Ms McDonagh. The public accounts committee has a meeting at the same time so I am trying to double-job. As a matter of interest, Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, was before that committee today. It is relevant to what we are discussing here today as regards child welfare and so on. I would be interested in hearing the witnesses' views on the Travelling...
- Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community: Child Protection and Family Support: Discussion (2 Oct 2025)
Séamus McGrath: I apologise if that was discussed earlier. As I said, I was not party to that. What Ms Joyce is saying about the trust issue is very interesting. All too often these interactions occur on a negative footing. As Ms Joyce said earlier, it is very important to be more supportive and positive in those interactions. That is where the system falls down. There is interaction with Tusla when...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (2 Oct 2025)
Séamus McGrath: This merits further consideration by the committee. The total bill so far is close to €10 million for the upkeep and maintenance of this vessel. We still do not have a clear timeline for the disposal of the vessel. The key questions centre around Revenue's planning and preparation for the disposal of the vessel. Revenue had it for a considerable period while it was under the control...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Peter McVerry Trust: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: I thank all those from the trust who are before us today for the work they do. It is obviously extremely valuable work, and it is well recognised and appreciated. We are here primarily to ask questions in respect of the exceptional funding that was made available in 2023. I ask the witnesses to be brief because the clock is against me. How much public funding does the trust get on an...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Peter McVerry Trust: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: What I am getting at here is in terms of the exceptional funding that was needed. Mr. O'Brien highlighted the internal control and governance issues. For an organisation that is so reliant on public funding, it is extraordinary those issues issues of governance and control measures arose. I will move on. The €15 million was required on an exceptional basis. Can Mr. Mulligan explain...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Peter McVerry Trust: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)
Séamus McGrath: Why was there such a reduction in fundraised income?
