Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I recall asking Mr. Treacy if any lessons had been learned from that meeting. I felt I had to ask the question because people had mentioned it and it gives Mr. Treacy the opportunity to come back.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Governance Review Group Report for the FAI Board and Sport Ireland: Sport Ireland (17 Jul 2019)

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I thank our guests for coming before us and I thank Mr. Horan for a very good report. I am very appreciative of the work our guests are doing and the due diligence they are carrying out. Well done. They have explained matters very well. I return to a question I asked earlier, which was followed up by Deputy MacSharry. It is critically important for our guests to use their influence to...

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Gabhaim buíochas leis an gCathaoirleach as ucht an deis a thabhairt dom labhairt ar chúrsaí uisce i gCuan na Gaillimhe. I dtosach báire, glacaim buíochas leis an Aire Stáit as teacht anseo. Tá dhá rud le rá sula dtosaím. Beidh deireadh seachtaine againn ar an gCeathrú Rua i gConamara do Theachtaí Dála, Seanadóirí,...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Water Quality (25 Sep 2019)

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I thank the Minister of State for his comprehensive response which I very much appreciate, particularly the points he made regarding water quality. We are doing well but we could do much better. The Minister of State highlighted the work of Irish Water in Clifden. As he will be aware, I had a long engagement related to Irish Water a couple of years ago. I would very much appreciate the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Challenges Facing Minority Sports: Discussion (25 Sep 2019)

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I express a deep, sincere "Thank you" to all our guests for appearing before the committee. It is a special occasion because it is the first time that Rowing Ireland has presented to an Oireachtas committee, but also because of what Rowing Ireland does and how it inspires people whom its board members do not know and will never meet. In some cases, a board member could walk down a street 50...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (1 Oct 2019)

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Now the Cathaoirleach is talking. Let us do it. I wish, first, to congratulate the Minister for Education and Skills for his decision to have history at the centre of the curriculum. It is from where we come, who we are and, frankly, helps us move towards our destiny. I thought it was a fantastic initiative by the Minister to put a line in the sand and say history was important to who we...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (2 Oct 2019)

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Will the Leader invite the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation to discuss the small and medium enterprise, SME, report, which he actively supported and to which he previously committed? A great deal of work has been done to produce the report and it is significant. I appreciate the Seanad Public Consultation Committee's support in activating the report, which involved...

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: This is the last time I will let someone who is not a member of the committee speak before me. Sin scéal eile. All of the witnesses are welcome. I congratulate Mr. Whelan on the work he has been doing. He mentioned that the company recently paid its first dividend in 200 years to the State, which is some feat. He spoke about the reduction in the pension liability as well. I wish...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Fáilte Ireland, Shannon Group and Port of Waterford Company: Chairpersons Designate (2 Oct 2019)

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I remind Mr. Cawley that I sat on the board of Fáilte Ireland for a number of years. I was very encouraged to hear him speaking about the staff. I say "well done" to him in that regard. The experience I had in Fáilte Ireland was that the staff are second to none. I was blown away by their passion and commitment.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Fáilte Ireland, Shannon Group and Port of Waterford Company: Chairpersons Designate (2 Oct 2019)

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I have a couple of questions for Ms Hynes. Shannon Airport is my favourite airport, particularly for its ease of access. I can get in and out very quickly. We have been discussing why airlines may or may not use the airport. As Mr. Cawley rightly said, it comes down to economics. If airlines make money by serving a particular airport, they will go there. If they make more money...

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit. This is the third time I have prepared a budget submission for the Department of Finance and my focus on each occasion has primarily been on small and medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurship, and the Gaeltacht, culture and the Irish language. A great deal of work went into my submission, as I am sure the Minister of State appreciates. In...
