- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Energy Prices: Discussion (25 Feb 2015)
Terry Brennan: One should not mind the grey hair. It was grey when I went into the ESB. I have just one question. Perhaps it was addressed in their submissions. Often I am told Ireland is one of the dearest countries in Europe and growing more expensive for both domestic and commercial electricity. How do we compare with Northern Ireland, Great Britain and continental Europe? Are we first, as in the...

Terry Brennan: I am thinking of people who would not use the website. If one changes provider, is one compelled to enter a contract for a fixed period, such as six months, one year or two years before one can revert to the previous provider?
- Seanad: Order of Business (3 Mar 2015)
Terry Brennan: Gabhaim chomhghairdeas le hAogán Ó Fearghail a toghadh mar uachtarán an chumainn luthchleas gael an Domhnach seo caite. Is an chéad uachtarán as Contae an Cabháin é. Is onóir iontach é d'fhear a d'oibrigh go dian dá cheantar agus don chumann luthchleas gael. Is onóir iontach ar fad é dá chlann uilig. Ba chúis...
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Mar 2015)
Terry Brennan: I support the call for a debate on the self-employed and small and medium-sized businesses. I acknowledge the role they have played and are playing. We started off with an initiative to ask each of the small and medium-sized businesses to employ one additional worker. There are 200,000 small and medium-sized businesses in the country and it would have been a great initiative to fulfil. I...
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Mar 2015)
Terry Brennan: I certainly am and it will be a worthwhile one because it is a worthwhile and very successful story. I acknowledge the role played by the tourism industry in our economic recovery. No doubt the initiatives by the Government such as reducing airport tax to zero and the 9% VAT rate were major contributors to this.

Terry Brennan: I do not want to be political but I have questions for Senator MacSharry who unfortunately is not here to answer them. The previous Government published a report in 2007-8 and nothing was done about it. Senator MacSharry was a bit harsh and hard on the Minister who is trying his utmost. He is a doer. He will ensure an electoral commission is established as soon as reasonably possible....

Terry Brennan: I, too, wish to acknowledge the reduction in the live register figures. Thankfully, the number of people signing on for social welfare has continued to fall 39 consecutive months in a row. That is great news. Unemployment figures are down from a high of 15.1% in February 2012 to 10.1% currently, and the figure is about to reduce to below 10% for the first time in many years. I have no...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Electoral Commission: Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government (10 Mar 2015)
Terry Brennan: As I do not want to be repetitive I will leave out some of the points I raised during the Seanad debate. On average, 40% of those on the electoral register, four out of ten people, do not exercise their democratic right. In fact, the figure has gone above four out of ten in recent years. This is an issue that must be addressed. I am aware of families where neither parent has ever exercised...
