Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Broadband Plan (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: 80. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment if he will provide a progress report on the roll-out of the national broadband plan in County Cork from 1 January 2022 to 30 November 2022; the number of premises connected during this timeframe, including schools and broadband connection points in the county; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Broadband Plan (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: Will the Minister provide a progress report on the roll-out of the national broadband plan in County Cork from 1 January 2022 to 30 November 2022, the number of premises connected during this timeframe, including schools and broadband connection points in the county and will he make a statement on the matter?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Broadband Plan (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: Does the Minister of State know the number of schools outstanding that have yet to be connected? I am coming across a lot of problems in County Cork where there are properties that Eir has the capacity to connect, but is not allowed to because they are in the amber area. Has there been any progress with Eir on that issue? For example, in one case the pole that provides the connection is at...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Broadband Plan (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: I refer to engagement with Eir. I understand when a property is in the amber area, Eir will not engage. It is saying it is being prevented from engaging because it will not get the same remuneration as the contractor doing the national broadband roll-out. That is the reason Eir will not connect properties in the amber area. As we are behind to a large extent in real terms, can we not...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Broadband Plan (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: 81. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment if NBI is continuing to engage with a company (details supplied) to provide broadband to premises in cases in which the company's fibre broadband infrastructure is bordering an amber area under the national broadband plan and given that the company has sufficient capacity to accommodate more premises on this line; and...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Broadband Plan (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: This question relates to the same issue I have just raised. Can the Minister provide information where Eir is prepared to engage on properties along the borderline areas? We certainly have not come across it in the Cork area. Every time we get on to Eir about such a connection, we are told "No". Does the Minister have other information in that regard?

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Housing Schemes (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: This is not the remit of the Minister of State, Deputy Rabbitte. I thank Deputy Rabbitte for all the work she has done on the housing area. It is unfortunate, on the second last day before we finish up, that the Minister of State is asked to deal with this housing issue. It is an extremely important issue. There are a large number of people getting caught in the middle-income groups....

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Housing Schemes (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: The figures the Minister of State produced are interesting. There is a 57% refusal rate. This is 57% throughout the entire country. We must remember this is an average. I understand that the refusal rates of certain local authorities are as high as 70%. This is the concern I have. If the average is 57%, it means some local authorities are proactive in assisting people. I ask that the...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Housing Schemes (15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: I appreciate that the Minister of State is dealing with this matter. I am sure she is familiar with this very important issue in her area. We have a lot of people who are working very hard to meet the criteria and to make sure they do not have to rent for the rest of their lives.

[62535/22]

Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
Chapter 8 - Contract payments in respect of Convention Centre Dublin
(15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: I thank the witnesses for attending and dealing with the queries raised. I wish to continue on the flood relief issue. My understanding was ten flood relief capital projects were ongoing in 2021. There was accumulated expenditure of €173 million, but my understanding is those ten projects will now cost around €213 million. Where are we with those ten projects? Are they...

Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
Chapter 8 - Contract payments in respect of Convention Centre Dublin
(15 Dec 2022)

Colm Burke: Yes, I ask Mr. Buckley to get back to me. I will move on. I refer to the timescale of the projects. Two specific projects in my constituency are the Glashaboy flood relief scheme and the Blackpool flood relief scheme. The Glashaboy scheme went out for tender before the whole project was abandoned and we are now back to square one. What is the timeframe now? Glashaboy was affected by...
