- Communications Regulation (Postal Services) (Amendment) Bill 2016: Second Stage (18 Jan 2017)
Catherine Murphy: It is important to put the history of the postal service in context because it is a survivor and in 2000 celebrated its tercentenary. There has been a postal service since 1700 which has been capable of change over the centuries. Mail has been delivered by stagecoach, the railway system which played a big part and mechanised vehicles and we are now going through another period of change in...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sport in Ireland; Challenges, Strategies and Governance: FAI, GAA and IRFU (18 Jan 2017)
Catherine Murphy: I thank the delegates for coming before the committee. Our brief covers transport, tourism and sport and we are very anxious to pay attention to each of these areas. Governance is a topic we very much want to cover because if we do not get it right, we will end up with issues similar to the ones we had last summer which brought sport into disrepute and raised questions about public funding....

Catherine Murphy: My question goes back to the point made by Senator O'Mahony regarding the AGM. Obviously, it is a very important event. I understand that the media must submit questions in advance. Why would they do that? I would say there is great support for sport and when one is very forthright, it almost says that everything is all right. It seems very controlled. - Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sport in Ireland; Challenges, Strategies and Governance: FAI, GAA and IRFU (18 Jan 2017)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sport in Ireland; Challenges, Strategies and Governance: FAI, GAA and IRFU (18 Jan 2017)
Catherine Murphy: It does not look like there is any funding in the 2016 capital envelope for phase 2. I received a reply to a parliamentary question on the master plan to the effect that other sources of capital were being explored. It looks like phase 2 will not be publicly funded.
