Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Mental Health Services (27 Nov 2018)

Pat Buckley: We are focusing on the rising number of vacancies within the mental health service. I visited the Linn Dara unit during the summer. There have been problems there and also in the Cork child and adolescent mental health service, CAMHS, where services were either closed temporarily over the summer or have refused new referrals. Also, the ACCES homeless mental health service in Dublin is not...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Mental Health Services (27 Nov 2018)

Pat Buckley: I thank the Minister of State for his reply but unfortunately it does not offer much solace for the people who are suffering and their family members. To add to what Deputy Ferris said, the clinical work-time equivalent in the Cork and Kerry CHO area is lacking by 75%. How can anything be done when three quarters of it is missing? More worryingly, 656 children is too many. The Government...

Pat Buckley: How can things work if one cannot fill the staff vacancies?

Microgeneration Support Scheme Bill 2017: Second Stage [Private Members] (27 Nov 2018)

Pat Buckley: I commend my colleague, Deputy Stanley, on tabling the Bill. Many Bills have passed through the House over the years. Deputy Stanley's Bill offers thought-out solutions and a great opportunity for households to become involved in microgeneration. It addresses ecological issues and climate change and makes people more aware of what we need and what we have to do. There are always...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Postal Services (29 Nov 2018)

Pat Buckley: An Post recently signalled to the monitoring group its intention to close one of its four mail centres. Workers, rightly, are very worried and fearful that the announcement has been made just weeks before Christmas. In the past An Post often expressed an interest in closing one of the centres, but this time it has shown its hand early. The information I have received in recent days backs...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Postal Services (29 Nov 2018)

Pat Buckley: I have with me the document sent by the Communications Workers' Union, CWU, headquarters and it confirms one centre is going to close, so I agree with the Minister on that. As I said, however, there are rumours in Cork. There are three centres at Athlone, Portlaoise and Dublin, and one will possibly be taken out of Cork - that is the possibility for Ireland south. Cork is a huge county....
