- Leaders' Questions (16 Nov 2016)
Bríd Smith: I notice the Government is taking a very tough line on pay demands from workers. I also notice, very interestingly, that it is being joined by great moral upbraiders in this country such as Mr. John Moran, or "Mr. Austerity", in taking this tough line. The view is also shared by the Minister sitting next to the Taoiseach, Deputy Leo Varadkar, who claims that if workers keep demanding these...
- Leaders' Questions (16 Nov 2016)
Bríd Smith: I absolutely see it. We welcome every job, but what good is a job to a worker who cannot afford to put a roof over his or her head or pay his or her car insurance? I refer to people who are struggling every day and getting into more and more debt. The Taoiseach has not addressed the fundamental issue of inequality that runs through my argument that Government decisions are allowing others...

- Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Bill 2016: Second Stage [Private Members] (17 Nov 2016)
Bríd Smith: I sure have and I will continue to do so. First, I very much welcome the discussion because I do not think we can talk about this enough because every day that goes by another 12 women leave this country to procure an abortion, and another three at least procure the abortion pill. The reality behind women’s lives, fatal foetal abnormality tragedies and other related issues continues...

- Select Committee on Social Protection: Social Welfare Bill 2016: Committee Stage (17 Nov 2016)
Bríd Smith: Okay. The substantive issue here is to do with a major glitch in the system of pay and pensions that particularly affects women. In the perceived attempt to normalise the contributions in the State pension for women, a measure was introduced in 2012 that would take the average contributions over a woman's working life. I should not just say woman, I should say a person's working life...
