- Other Questions: Tax Code (7 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: Yes.
- Other Questions: Tax Code (7 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: Does the Minister not consider it a bit obscene that the banks were bailed out to the tune of €64 billion, and they now get to count that bailout - those losses - as an asset on their balance sheets? Obviously, in the case of the nationalised bank it does not really matter, but from the point of view of Bank of Ireland, which has €1.2 billion in deferred tax assets, and the...

- Challenges Facing the European Union: Statements (Resumed) (7 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: This perfunctory debate on Europe sums up the approach of the Government and the establishment parties on the question of how we discuss Europe and the future of the EU. The approach of the establishment in this country is to be so-called good Europeans. What it means by that is that it votes for - again and again if necessary - successive neoliberal, militaristic treaties. What it also...
- Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) (Amendment) Bill 2014 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (7 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: The Anti-Austerity Alliance will not be supporting this Bill. We are, of course, opposed to terrorism. It and all terrorist acts are currently illegal and will remain so, subject to very strict and severe sanctions, even if this Bill is defeated. The Bill represents a broadening of the 2002 Council framework decision on combating terrorism, and that legislation represented a very serious...
- An Bille um an gCeathrú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht 2014: An Dara Céim [Comhaltaí Príobháideacha] - Thirty-fourth Amendment of the Constitution Bill 2014: Second Stage [Private Members] (8 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: The State does not have a pro-life position. It has a pro-hypocrisy position, which in its implementation means an anti-woman position. We have a constitutional hypocrisy whereby women have the constitutional right to travel to access abortions yet are denied abortions here. Those who avail of safe abortions here through the use of abortion pills face draconian penalties of up to 14 years...

- Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed): European Council Meetings (12 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: I wish to refer to the points made by Deputies Boyd Barrett and Martin regarding the case of Ibrahim Halawa. Will the Taoiseah indicate whether the human rights situation in Egypt has been discussed at European Council since December 2014? Have the mass trials that are ongoing been discussed? A few weeks ago people were sentenced to death for participating in a protest and last week...

- Leaders' Questions (13 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: Irish Water has issued almost 1 million bills, 592,000 of which have passed their pay-by dates. How many water bills have been paid? What is the rate of payment and non-payment? I suspect there is much more non-payment than the Government hoped. Otherwise, the Taoiseach would be shouting from the roof-tops that people were accepting the charges and we would not be faced with the bogeyman...
- Leaders' Questions (13 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: I asked a very simple question.
- Leaders' Questions (13 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: It was about the rate of payment. The Taoiseach’s answer is to go and ask Irish Water as if it has nothing to do with the Government. The Taoiseach was not shy in boasting about puffed-up and bloated Irish Water registration figures where the same people were responsible for them.
- Leaders' Questions (13 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: It is a bit like “Blue Peter”. Earlier, we prepared in advance and asked Irish Water what the levels of payment were. It said it would not give us those figures as it regards the levels of payment and the number of people who have paid now to be statistically insignificant. That means 500,000 bills and 500,000 people are somehow statistically insignificant. Opinion polls are...
- Leaders' Questions (13 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: Does the Taoiseach not know what the rate of payments is? Has Irish Water not informed him? Will he find that information and give it to the House? Will the Taoiseach confirm that the legislation will require court cases? Will he allay the scaremongering in which he has been deliberately engaged, suggesting that Irish Water will be able to take them? We have had court cases before...
- Leaders' Questions (13 May 2015)
Paul Murphy: Will the Taoiseach give us the figures? Will he confirm that he is talking about court cases rather than direct deductions, in other words, that Irish Water will not be able to directly deduct? Is he seriously considering any court cases in advance of the general election? If so, does he have clear prospects lined up?
