- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Disability Support Services Provision (25 Sep 2014)
Mary Moran: I am not asking for that at all. I am not asking for anybody to do that. I am asking that funding be provided for residential placements for those people who are in urgent need of them.
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Disability Support Services Provision (25 Sep 2014)
Mary Moran: I raised it a year ago and nothing has changed.
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Disability Support Services Provision (25 Sep 2014)
Mary Moran: I am not asking for that, and I agree totally with the Minister.

Mary Moran: I need to clarify that as well.
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Disability Support Services Provision (25 Sep 2014)
Mary Moran: Particularly in crisis places.
- Seanad: Order of Business (30 Sep 2014)
Mary Moran: I concur with Senator White's sentiments regarding parity for women and her call for the extension of breast cancer screening to women aged over 55 years. It is important that this be done immediately. Last Friday, I had the opportunity to participate in what we believe was the first ever workshop organised by a disability group in Trinity College Dublin for people with intellectual...
- Seanad: Education (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2014: Committee Stage (Resumed) (30 Sep 2014)
Mary Moran: I thank the Minister for agreeing to look at reviewing it. I concur with her that we should look at it in the future. We all come across such cases.
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Water Charges Exemptions (14 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I welcome Deputy Hayes and thank him for taking this matter on the Adjournment, regarding the case of an elderly lady who is living full time in a nursing home. I have been contacted by her son, who reports that his mother has been billed for €125 for water and wastewater services for the year in her family home. She does not live there and nor does anybody else, so the house is...
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Water Charges Exemptions (14 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I thank the Minister of State for his response. I would appreciate if he would bring it back because I know the house and the person involved and can assure him it is a most genuine case. I take his point that there might be few cases where this occurs but it does happen and I have no doubt this is not the only case. If this woman was at home with her allowances she would be charged less...
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Water Charges Exemptions (14 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I am not questioning the need to give the PPS number and the man who came to me with a query has no problem about giving his PPS number but he wants to know how long Irish Water will hold his details.
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I want to address the courageous and troubling account of the series of events raised by Maíria Cahill regarding the sexual abuse she endured as a teenager and the way in which it was handled when she came forward, particularly by the leader of the Sinn Féin Party, as well as the deputy leader, herself a woman. I call on her to state publicly if she will believe Maíria...
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I also want to raise the issue of symphysiotomy payment scheme again. We recently had a briefing on it and I would like if it were introduced as soon as possible.
- Seanad: Immigration (Reform) (Regularisation of Residency Status) Bill 2014: Second Stage [Private Members] (22 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. Senator Darragh O'Brien claimed the Government will not address direct provision. There is not a Senator who does not want the system changed and the terrible wrongs that are taking place put right. I commend Senators Norris and van Turnhout on proposing the Bill. From my work with Senator Ó Clochartaigh, I am aware of the excellent work...
- Seanad: Immigration (Reform) (Regularisation of Residency Status) Bill 2014: Second Stage [Private Members] (22 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I cannot answer that. I ask for Senator Darragh O'Brien's co-operation in this matter. We should consider the recommendations made by the working group when it reports back to the Government. Senator Norris referred to the payment of €19 and €6 per week made to adults and children, respectively. No one could live on that amount. I read recently that toilet paper has been...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Role of Primary School Boards of Management: Discussion (22 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: That is a major problem. A circular on uniform policy was issued last year, but schools were not obliged to fill in the information. It was merely advisory.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Role of Primary School Boards of Management: Discussion (22 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I thank the witnesses for coming in for this very worthwhile debate, although it is unfortunate we had so many stops and starts. I would like to thank Deputy Daly for bringing this matter forward today. I commend him on his remarks, 99% of which I would concur with. Having over 20 years experience of teaching, the first thing that would strike me with regard to boards of management, and it...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Role of Primary School Boards of Management: Discussion (22 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: It is not out there. For example, parents newsletters should have the names of the members of the board of management across the top.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Role of Primary School Boards of Management: Discussion (22 Oct 2014)
Mary Moran: I still think the parents should be entitled to know.
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Nov 2014)
Mary Moran: I congratulate Dundalk FC, its manager Stephen Kenny, and the excellent team of players on their fantastic success this year in winning the League of Ireland trophy for the first time in 19 years, and the EA Sports Cup Final.
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Nov 2014)
Mary Moran: It has been a very barren time for Dundalk in terms of winning trophies and I am delighted that this year it came to the fore. Dundalk has always been a very sporting town, in particular a soccer town. The wins have given a boost to the town both in terms of sport and economically, which I hope will be an attraction to the town in the coming year.
