- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality: Recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality: Discussion (Resumed) (28 Apr 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank the Minister. I wish to focus on recommendation 39(a). The Minister mentioned the family courts Bill. We have had internal discussions on the balance to be struck when it comes to mediation. I believe that currently less than 5% of those involved in family law cases go through mediation prior to taking it to the courts. What is the Minister's proposal? How can we step up...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality: Recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality: Discussion (Resumed) (28 Apr 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: What is the best practice that the Department is using to develop that?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality: Recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality: Discussion (Resumed) (28 Apr 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: It is critical that we have proper funding in place. What can already be quite a lengthy process is often lengthened further because of mediation. That is often the reason people do not enter into mediation because it is quite difficult to get practitioners. I assume funding will be included in that plan.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality: Recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality: Discussion (Resumed) (28 Apr 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: The Minister was in the Seanad yesterday to debate Committee Stage of the Criminal Justice (Amendment) Bill 2022. Senators Chambers, Doherty and I are co-signatories of that Bill. Senator Doherty did considerable work on that, as did Noeline Blackwell of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. Key to that Bill is that we allow character witnesses to be cross-examined. They come before a judge...
- Seanad: Birth Information and Tracing Bill 2022: Second Stage (10 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank the Minister. As a member of a party in government and as the leader of the Green Party in the Seanad, it is appropriate for me to join the Minister in apologising. I would also like to hear apologies from the other parties in government, which I am sure they will join with me in making. Fundamentally, what lies behind this is a denial of rights that has been going on for...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I propose that No. 22 be taken before No. 1. It will be seconded by my colleague. I agree with the point about a debate on the Assembly elections. The changing demographic in Northern Ireland must be taken into account. It was not taken into account in the Good Friday Agreement and has landed us in a position where it is difficult when people disagree on forming a shared Executive. I...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I encourage the Senator to read the Bill as he will learn that it does not ban everything.
- Seanad: Regulation of Display of Electoral and Polling Posters and Other Advertisements Bill 2022: First Stage (11 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I move: That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend the law relating to the display of posters and other advertisements for elections or polls relating to the Presidential Election Acts 1992 to 2006, the Electoral Acts 1992 to 2019, the Local Government Acts 1925 to 2019, the European Parliament Elections Acts 1992 to 2019 and the Referendum Acts 1992 to 2013; and to...

Pauline O'Reilly: I also welcome the Minister to the Chamber.
- Seanad: Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill 2022: Committee Stage (Resumed) (11 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: Amendment Nos. 102, 126, 127 and 148 are related and may be discussed together by agreement. Is that agreed?
- Seanad: Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill 2022: Committee Stage (Resumed) (11 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: Amendments Nos. 103, 120, 123 to 125, inclusive, and 128 are related and may be discussed together. Is that agreed? Agreed.
- Seanad: Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill 2022: Committee Stage (Resumed) (11 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank Senator Cassells for facilitating me. I thought there may have been someone else who might want to speak about this. Some Senators have been incredibly vocal when I have pointed out that I agreed with the recommendations of the report of the Oireachtas joint committee that we needed to ban online advertising of formula milk in this country. My feelings on this are very much on the...
- Seanad: Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill 2022: Committee Stage (Resumed) (11 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: The Senator has three minutes.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: New Retrofitting Plan and the Built Environment: Discussion (Resumed) (10 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: We have received much information today that will be very important. Part of that is because we are responding to a crisis. We are in the middle of a revolution akin to the industrial revolution and having to respond on a whole-of-society basis. I sit on the education committee as well as this one, so I am interested in much of the conversation. A piece has been done around leaving...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: New Retrofitting Plan and the Built Environment: Discussion (Resumed) (10 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: There were a lot of education questions there. Apologies.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: New Retrofitting Plan and the Built Environment: Discussion (Resumed) (10 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I would not mind, but perhaps some of the other witnesses wish to respond first.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: New Retrofitting Plan and the Built Environment: Discussion (Resumed) (10 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: That is good news. I am pleased to hear about the education activities, including in local authorities. Mr. Hoyne referred to data analysis on county development plans and how they have moved. Am I correct in saying that TUS has undertaken some analysis of those plans?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: New Retrofitting Plan and the Built Environment: Discussion (Resumed) (10 May 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: That makes perfect sense. Would there be value in doing something that was more systematic? We could take lessons from examining local development plans and then put together a broader piece in support of the climate action plan and our climate goals.
