- Disability Bill 2004: Report Stage (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I am not opposing the amendment as it is welcome. However, I do not understand how this aspect is different to the other amendments which sought to include the phrase "without undue delay". The response of the Minister of State on those occasions was that it would all be done by regulation. In this instance, he is doing the exact opposite by providing for it in the legislation. Will the...
- Disability Bill 2004: Report Stage (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The difficulty will be overcome if the Minister of State agrees to withdraw only amendment No. 88a.
- Disability Bill 2004: Report Stage (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Amendment No. 93 was originally tabled by Deputy Stanton. This amendment will increase the degree of transparency for those with disabilities. It is a moderate and fair amendment and I see no reason that the Minister of State should not accept it. It serves to work with and make the best of the fundamentally flawed formula around the delivery of services as set out in the statement of need....
- Disability Bill 2004: Report Stage (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Cosúil leis an Teachta McGrath, tacaÃm leis an leasú seo ón Teachta Cowley toisc go bhfuil séá chur chun cinn, rud nár aithin mé féin nuair a bhà mé ag dul trÃd an reachtaÃocht. Nà fhaca mé gurbh fhéidir an rud seo a chur chun cinn cuÃosach tapaidh agus nach gcosnódh sé an oiread sin airgid ar an Stát. Tá an ceart ag an Teachta nuair a deir sé go sabhálfadh sé roinnt...
- Disability Bill 2004: Report Stage (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: AontaÃm leis an Teachta McGrath arÃst. Is trua nach bhfuil an tAire sásta glacadh leis an leasú faoi láthair, in ainneoin go ndúirt sé go raibh sásamh éigin ann. NÃl i gceist ach céim shimplÃ, ach tá an tAire á rá, toisc go bhfuil coiste idir-rannógach ann faoi láthair atá ag déileáil le cártaÃ, nach bhfuil sé sásta bogadh ar an gceist seo. Tá muid ag déileáil leis...
- Disability Bill 2004: Report Stage (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: TacaÃm le leasú Uimh. 98 a chuir an Teachta Stanton sÃos sa choiste. I support these amendments, which place an onus on the Health Service Executive to identify under-resourced services for which there is a demand and to plan for the provision of those services in line with demand. That does not amount to ring-fencing resources for them but identifies the services required which are...
- Disability Bill 2004: Report Stage (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: ArÃs, tuigim cad atáá rá ag an Aire, ach nà aontaÃm go hiomlán leis. Chuirfeadh an leasú leis an reachtaÃocht dá nglacfaà leis. Déanann sé iarracht déileáil leis an cheist seo, mar a bhà mé féin ag iarraidh a dhéanamh sna leasuithe a rialaÃodh as ord. Is é an rud bunúsach atá i gceist ná go mbeadh na seirbhÃsà atá de dhÃth faoi láthair ar fáil roimh i bhfad. Fiú...
- Aer Lingus: Motion (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Ag leanúint ón méid a bhÃá rá ag an Aire, tá gach cinneadh a dhéanann sé mÃcheart, mar sin an sórt duine atá ann. Is cuid fhÃorthábhachtach de bhuneagar na tÃre seo é Aer Lingus, ó bunaÃodh é sa bhliain 1936. Chuidigh sé le forbairt eacnamaÃochta na tÃre agus an oileáin seo, agus bhà sé riachtanach ag an am go raibh nasc idir muidne agus an domhan agus go raibh Aer...

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The Government would have presented us with a fait accompli within months.
- Aer Lingus: Motion (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The motion gives Government Deputies the opportunity to state clearly where they stand on the privatisation of one of the State's vital strategic assets. They cannot dodge the question. Fianna Fáil Deputies especially cannot speak in whispers or from behind their hands to tell constituents that the Government made the decision and, while they are against it, their hands are tied.
- Aer Lingus: Motion (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Fianna Fáil Deputies can vote "Tá" or "NÃl" tonight, after which it will be a matter of public record whether they are in favour of privatisation.

- Aer Lingus: Motion (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: There was no attempt in the Government's amendment or Deputy Cowen's reply last night to refute the points made in the Sinn Féin motion that there is no impediment under EU competition rules to Government investment in Aer Lingus.
- Aer Lingus: Motion (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: From time to time, the Government has claimed that its hands are tied by the EU and it cannot put money into the company. The trade unions have clearly demonstrated that as a majority shareholder, the State could have invested and can still but for the decision of the Government to sell the airline.
- Aer Lingus: Motion (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The Government should invest in a company which is profitable, efficient and capable of delivery.
- Aer Lingus: Motion (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I call on the Minister to reverse the decision. I call on Fianna Fáil backbenchers to stand with us in protecting a vital State asset.
- Aer Lingus: Motion (Resumed). (25 May 2005)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: As a teller, under Standing Order 69 I propose that the vote be taken by other than electronic means.
