Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform: Proposed Changes to Pay and File Tax Date: Discussion with Irish Tax Institute (20 Nov 2013)

Regina Doherty: I thank Mr. Redmond for his response. What responses, if any, were obtained from the departmental officials who engaged in the consultation process? Was their response that this is not their problem? Fundamentally, people are expected to pay their tax returns at the end of June but they do not have that cashflow now. A shorter tax year might work if a person only had to pay what was...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Health Information and Quality Authority Corporate Plan 2013-2015: Discussion (26 Nov 2013)

Regina Doherty: I thank the two representatives of HIQA for coming to this meeting. I wish Mr. McEnery the best of luck with this comprehensive plan. I disagree with Senator Crown in so far as I think it is a far-reaching plan. I hope it will go further in the years to come as HIQA's remit is developed. I would like to ask two questions about the plan. Do the plans for expansion that have been outlined...

Forestry Bill 2013: Second Stage (Resumed) (27 Nov 2013)

Regina Doherty: I join with my colleague, Deputy Conway, in congratulating the Minister of State, Deputy Tom Hayes, as this is the first occasion he has introduced a Bill as Minister of State. The Bill is timely, given that this is the first Forestry Bill since 1954. I acknowledge the Minister of State's interest in this legislation. The main aim of the Bill is to support the development of a modern...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Health Insurance (Amendment) Bill 2013: Discussion (28 Nov 2013)

Regina Doherty: I thank all the representatives for attending the committee. I wish to ask two specific questions. The first one is for GloHealth, Aviva and Laya because I already have the information from the VHI. The companies' market share figures are freely available but the claim figures from a percentage market perspective are not available. Are the companies in a position to provide those figures?...

Regina Doherty: Can Mr. Clancy get them?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Health Insurance (Amendment) Bill 2013: Discussion (28 Nov 2013)

Regina Doherty: Given that the HIA based its report on actual usage in 2012 without taking account of trends, and given that everybody who has presented here this morning has said the number of private bed stays is actually decreasing, how was the figure of €115 million arrived at?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Health Insurance (Amendment) Bill 2013: Discussion (28 Nov 2013)

Regina Doherty: I understand that. The HIA came up with a figure of €30 million.

Regina Doherty: 159. To ask the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Meath will receive assurances as to when their established care plan will be put into place and in addition provide assurances that there will be an agreement that those care hours may be allocated over the term of study and not month by month as had previously been the case; and if he will make a statement on the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill: Discussion with Minister for Health (5 Dec 2013)

Regina Doherty: I thank the Minister for Health, Dr. Holohan and Ms Luddy. The presentations were very good. Obviously, we are only starting to go through the heads of the Bill. I have a question on head 13, as well as some general questions. Perhaps there is a really obvious explanation, but if I buy a packet of contraband cigarettes which somebody has seen fit to bring in on Henry Street when this...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill: Discussion with Minister for Health (5 Dec 2013)

Regina Doherty: Does it mean that if I walk up to Moore Street after the Bill is enacted and buy a packet of cigarettes from the fellow with the duffel bag that he is still excluded?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill: Discussion with Minister for Health (5 Dec 2013)

Regina Doherty: Yes, he is. Am I committing a crime? The way I read that head is that it also excludes me because I would be buying it for my own personal use. I appreciate that if I go to Spain and bring some cigarettes back in my suitcase that is fine. I am asking specifically about those people who are actively going to the sellers of contraband stock. Are we excluding them too?
