- Pathway to Redress for Victims of Convicted Child Sexual Abusers: Motion [Private Members] (4 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: I wish to share time with Deputy Fiona O'Loughlin. I thank my colleague, Deputy Willie O'Dea, for bringing forward the motion. On behalf of the victims of sexual abuse who have been excluded on an unfair basis from the fruits of the Louise O'Keeffe decision, I thank the Deputy and my party leader for their commitment. I pay tribute to the victims, many of whom are in the Visitors Gallery...

- Heritage Bill 2016: Report Stage (Resumed) and Final Stage (4 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: I regret I was not able to speak last night. I had a public meeting to attend. I spoke strongly against this Bill on Second Stage because the original intent was an abominable tactic by the then Fine Gael Minister to give free rein to cut hedgerows during August. It was a disgraceful proposition. I thank Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív and others who are strongly pushing the agenda to...

- Other Questions: Commission on the Future of Policing Reports (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: I was expecting to ask my question after Deputy Gino Kenny's question. I am very grateful to the Deputy and apologise for my late arrival. I took the chair of the committee to allow Deputy O'Loughlin to go to the Chamber. I did not expect that other Deputies would not be in the Chamber to ask questions. Gabhaim buíochas. I am grateful to the House.
- Other Questions: Garda Deployment (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: 10. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if he is satisfied with Garda resources in County Meath. [28904/18]
- Other Questions: Garda Deployment (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: In light of recent figures which show that burglaries in Meath increased significantly in 2017 compared with 2016, is the Minister satisfied with Garda resources in the county? The Garda district of Ashbourne has the same population as County Westmeath but has less than half - the figure is closer to one third in fact - the number of gardaí County Westmeath has.
- Other Questions: Garda Deployment (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: County Meath needs significantly more resources because we are vastly under-resourced in terms of Garda man and woman power when compared with other areas that are very close to us. In particular, I refer to County Westmeath which has a similar profile to Meath. It has a much lower population and a similar number of gardaí, which is not fair. There are also other issues with Garda...
- Other Questions: Garda Deployment (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: I did not ask this question as an opportunity to take a political potshot at the Government. I asked it as an advocate for, and representative of, my constituency. It does not serve the case well for the Minister to respond by taking a potshot at me. What I will say is that the confidence and supply agreement ensures that this Government, which has been in power since 2011, will increase...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Review of Relationships and Sexuality Education: Discussion (Resumed) (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: I have a couple of simple questions, the first being for Mr. Curtis. Is there anything in the State curriculum that is not taught in some or all of his schools in regard to RSE? Dr. Gormley mentioned the ETBI schools and the community schools. A town in my constituency has an ETB school, which I will not name because I do not want to talk about particular schools. There is an ETB...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Review of Relationships and Sexuality Education: Discussion (Resumed) (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: Is the stalling of training an issue for the Joint Managerial Body or is it wider? Is it just Mr. Curtis's sector or is it across the board?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Review of Relationships and Sexuality Education: Discussion (Resumed) (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: I was a bit shocked to hear that. Is Mr. Curtis aware of a bishop writing to schools instructing them not to teach consent classes?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Review of Relationships and Sexuality Education: Discussion (Resumed) (5 Jul 2018)
Thomas Byrne: I think I have.
