- Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: Judicial Review and Appeals Process: Engagement with Courts Service (9 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: Okay. That is interesting in itself. I will change tack and perhaps go back to being slightly parochial. Will Ms Denning clarify if it is 193 judges across the country?

- Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: Judicial Review and Appeals Process: Engagement with Courts Service (9 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: I am in north Kildare. A lot of people might use the courts in Dublin, but a courthouse like Naas Courthouse is in an area of growing population and growing demand, as referred to earlier. How do we go about getting extra judges to deal with backlogs of cases, and extra buildings if there is a lack of facilities in a place like Naas? I am using Naas only as an example. How can we expand...

Joe Neville: Okay. I will get on to the relevant Minister. He is in PAC tomorrow and I might have a chat with him. We need extra funding there and extra judges. Will it be the Courts Service who will be assigning, not extra judges per se but-----

- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: This committee has been very informative over the past few weeks and I have learned a huge amount from the people coming in. It is very good to have the ESRI in as well. I have read through the brief and we received the opening statements. I will ask individual questions, but a trend I have identified is that there is almost a fear coming from the Central Bank, the Irish Fiscal Advisory...
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: I am just talking about the windfall taxes, because it keeps coming out as a trend.
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: I will jump in because it was said that wages are rising faster than inflation.
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: I have got the upcoming budget in mind and others have alluded to it as well. Does Dr. O'Toole think the Government needs to pull the brakes regarding current spending?
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: The problem with infrastructure is that even though it might be capital, it obviously has a current impact. We can decide we are going to put billions into capital infrastructure but it obviously has a knock-on current impact because it puts more money into the economy.
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: They all seem to be very much in agreement on this, though. I have noticed that over the last few weeks.
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: I have a specific question there. It might be too specific and Dr. O'Toole might have the answer off the top of his head. Windfall taxes keep coming up and we all know a windfall is defined as something unusual. Do we have a view on how much of our current revenue is based on these windfall corporation taxes?
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: How do we differentiate between what is the windfall element and the current element of it?
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: Things could change, like the tariffs, but obviously some of that would still be there. How much of it is vulnerable?
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: It is like a bonus to someone's wages in a household budget. We would not be planning the rest of the year on that.
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Quarterly Economic Commentary: Economic and Social Research Institute (15 Jul 2025)
Joe Neville: I will ask a couple of specific questions. I could not help but notice during Leaders' Questions what Deputy McDonald said about how our increases in energy costs still remain some of the highest and, in fairness, some other contributors said the same. I also know from my own studies where we are getting our energy from. Is it purely related to the price of gas, because Dr. O'Toole...
