Mark Wall: Is that agreed? Agreed.
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Disability Services (14 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: I too welcome the Minister of State to the House and thank the Cathaoirleach for selecting this very important matter. It was in February of this year that I raised this matter previously with Deputy Collins's colleague, the Minister of State, Deputy Rabbitte. The issue is the need to find out what the waiting times for assessments of need are in the community healthcare organisation, CHO,...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Disability Services (14 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: Unfortunately, the reply does not differentiate between an administrative hub and an assessment hub. I ask the Minister of State to raise with the Minister of State, Deputy Rabbitte, the need to differentiate between the two. It seems an administrative hub gathers information, while an assessment hub carries out assessments. We do not have an assessment hub in CHO 7. The figure of 1,935...
- Seanad: Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Agency Bill 2023: Second Stage (15 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: I welcome the Minister to the House. I begin by paying tribute to Teach Tearmainn, which provides a vital service for victims of domestic abuse and violence in my county of Kildare. Alongside emotional and informative supports, it offers refuge to women escaping horrific and traumatising situations in their homes. The work it does is commendable. As unfortunate as it is, its services are...
- Seanad: Vacant and Derelict Buildings: Motion [Private Members] (15 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I join my colleague, Senator Sherlock, in thanking Senator Moynihan for her considerable input into what we consider, as all Senators have said, the important Private Members' motion we are discussing. A lot of emphasis has been put on Dublin for obvious reasons. For someone from a more rural area who travels through a lot of rural areas to get...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Roll-out and Delivery of Broadband in Rural Areas: Discussion (15 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: I apologise to the witnesses as I got parked on the N7 on the way in, as did a lot of people this morning.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Roll-out and Delivery of Broadband in Rural Areas: Discussion (15 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: Yes, in fairness, we are working on that. A lot of people were caught on the N7 today. I thank the witnesses. I am benefiting from fibre broadband in my area, as are my neighbours. It has made a difference. It is important to start off with that. I apologise if my questions have been asked previously. There are pockets in the area where fibre has been delivered where for whatever...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Roll-out and Delivery of Broadband in Rural Areas: Discussion (15 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: To clarify, what is happening here is that there are some additional works needed in order to provide for these people whose neighbours are getting fibre broadband. They have been told these works will be provided. This is going on for a number of months and unfortunately we have not been able to get to the bottom of it. Their neighbours are getting fibre broadband, but because of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Roll-out and Delivery of Broadband in Rural Areas: Discussion (15 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: Yes, I appreciate that.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Roll-out and Delivery of Broadband in Rural Areas: Discussion (15 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: The Cathaoirleach has summed them up well. My concerns were about broadband officers and local authorities, so I thank him. I will ask a follow-up question about BCPs. It was mentioned that they could be substituted, but is there a process for that? The local community I have in mind availed of rural funding, which was appreciated, but how would we go about substituting one BCP for another?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Roll-out and Delivery of Broadband in Rural Areas: Discussion (15 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: As always. I appreciate the answers.
- Seanad: Sports Funding: Statements (21 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: All neighbours.
- Seanad: Sports Funding: Statements (21 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I have raised sports funding in this House on a number of occasions. The last time the Minister of State was in the House we were debating a report from the sports and media committee when we raised sports funding as well. It is a vital conversation to have in this House. As has been mentioned a few times this evening, it is important for many...
- Seanad: Sports Funding: Statements (21 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: As I said, it is a separate club.
- Seanad: Sports Funding: Statements (21 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: I will explain again because the Minister of State was on his phone when I last explained. There are five clubs in Athy and they are beholden to those five clubs to use the facilities. The problem in Athy, which is being replicated in other places I will mention, is that those clubs are at full capacity. The pitches they have they need for their own teams. That is why we are at capacity...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Nov 2023)
Mark Wall: There are two issues I wish to raise. Yesterday, the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence, announced a detailed implementation plan for the Report of the Commission on the Defence Forces. It is very welcome and goes into great detail regarding the 130 or so recommendations from that particular report. I ask that the Leader would organise a debate with the Tánaiste and Minister for...
