- Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Mental Health: Discussion (24 Sep 2019)
Colette Kelleher: That is a very specific question. While the witnesses are thinking about their answer to that, I call Deputy O'Loughlin.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Mental Health: Discussion (24 Sep 2019)
Colette Kelleher: I thank Senator Warfield, whose question was on mental health, the arts and Travellers. Deputy O'Loughlin's question was on supports for children in schools and outreach. Since we are probably approaching the last round of contributions, would each of our guests like to make a comment? We will start with Mr. Reilly.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Mental Health: Discussion (24 Sep 2019)
Colette Kelleher: Mr. Thomas McCann from the Traveller Counselling Service is in the Gallery today and will be appearing before this committee at its next meeting. Today is not the last word for any of our witnesses. We can turn our phones off but they cannot. I am really grateful to them all for their contributions. I know that it has been painful for them to share so many stories. As Senator Warfield...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Mental Health: Discussion (24 Sep 2019)
Colette Kelleher: Certainly. That was discussed. We will put the proposal to invite a wider selection of people to members and I am sure there will be agreement. Mr. Reilly and Mr. Joyce have paths worn to the Oireachtas but there are other voices we want to hear. Ms Quilligan stated that 61 people are engaged in this process. That is very encouraging. When the committee is finishing its overall...

Colette Kelleher: I thank the witnesses for coming to the committee today. Addressing vacant and derelict sites to turn them into much-needed homes is a welcome measure, but I want to learn more. I seek a number of clarifications from the representatives today. Will the witnesses please clarify the ownership of the currently publicly held land, before and after development? Will they also clarify the...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Land Development Agency Bill 2019: Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government and Land Development Agency (2 Oct 2019)
Colette Kelleher: Some of my questions have been answered but many more have arisen. The big sticking point for me is ownership. It seems like a massive giveaway of public assets for 15,000 social houses. I acknowledge there will be 45,000 affordable houses, but we have not defined what that constitutes. I have big questions in terms of a cost-benefit analysis and cost rental. If 60% of the cost rentals...

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (3 Oct 2019)
Colette Kelleher: I concur with Senator Conway-Walsh in her comments on homelessness. We are all worried about getting home during the storm, but one only has to walk around the streets of Dublin or Cork, with which I am very familiar, to see people living in makeshift tents. I hope they will be safe. I have just come from a briefing given by the Simon Communities of Ireland. They are operating at capacity...
