Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised)
(29 Mar 2017)

Imelda Munster: A further breakdown of this programme would be useful. There seems to be a slightly - it is slight - lower allocation for 2017. Why is this? It is said the Coast Guard is working in very unsafe and underfunded conditions. Does the Minister have a plan to rectify this and if so, is this reflected in the allocation?

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised)
(29 Mar 2017)

Imelda Munster: On sports grants applications, does the Minister think the allocations were sufficient given that they were not available last year? I understand there was a fairly large response in the number of applications. Can the Minister give us an idea of how many were made, how many were granted and how many were turned down?

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised)
(29 Mar 2017)

Imelda Munster: That is what I was going to say. Four out of five applications will be unsuccessful, and this must be viewed in the context of the fact that there were no grants available last year.

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised)
(29 Mar 2017)

Imelda Munster: Given the volume of applicants, and that four out of five applications will be unsuccessful, will the Minister perhaps consider giving priority next year to those who have been unsuccessful? There will be another tranche of 500 to 1,000 new additional applications next year. To ensure there are not some clubs and sporting bodies applying every year and going on for years without funding,...

Imelda Munster: I have a brief question relating to the 20% decrease in funding for tourist product development. What is the rationale for that? What does it mean in reality? A very significant amount of tourist product development is needed in the midlands and Border regions.

Topical Issue Debate: Bus Éireann (4 Apr 2017)

Imelda Munster: The Minister finally awoke from his slumber last Friday morning, if only for an hour or so. There was one reason and one reason only for that - the disruption that was brought to his front door, that is, Dublin - yet the Minister's outsourcing and privatisation agenda takes precedence over the travelling public, over workers' rights and over rural Ireland. Any attempt by the Minister or the...

Topical Issue Debate: Bus Éireann (4 Apr 2017)

Imelda Munster: On April fool's day a pay rise of €5,000 kicked in for Deputies. At least 90 Deputies, the bulk of whom are members of Government, snapped up that pay rise with both hands. Those same Deputies think that workers should accept a 30% cut in their wages. They think that it is fair that bus workers would accept a 30% cut in their wages. Those Deputies are hiding behind and, at the same...
