Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: All-Island Strategic Rail Review: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2022)

Gerry Horkan: I thank the Cathaoirleach and that is praise indeed. I should stop now as it is all downhill from here. Again, as a person who has sat on school boards for 18 years and I am still on one, and have looked at numbers where we had 200 to 300 people applying for 90 places, Dublin is oversubscribed. My grandfather came from Mayo to Dublin. Eight of his siblings went to America. The reality...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: All-Island Strategic Rail Review: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2022)

Gerry Horkan: Drawing on Mr. Logue’s own expertise, has he any idea of the time in that planning phase, as I am aware that people will object with all that that involves? Is it two or four years, six months, or what is it?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: All-Island Strategic Rail Review: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2022)

Gerry Horkan: Mr. Logue is saying, therefore, that one could have a railway line from Dublin Airport to Connolly in five to six years' time which would be significantly ahead of the metro. That would complement metro, not be a replacement for it.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Mar 2022)

Gerry Horkan: I rise to reflect and pass on my deepest sympathies and condolences, along with my party, Fianna Fáil, and, indeed, the entire House, to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr. David Hill. He was over at the weekend representing the Scottish Parliament and passed away during the match against the Oireachtas rugby team, the Dáil and Seanad XV, early on Saturday afternoon. I met...

Gerry Horkan: I move: "That Second Stage be taken today."

Seanad: Garda Síochána (Compensation) Bill 2021: Second Stage (22 Mar 2022)

Gerry Horkan: I am not going to repeat everything in the Minister of State's speech and the briefing notes, given he has already very well articulated the purpose of this Bill. As a party, Fianna Fáil, the party of Government, supports this Government legislation which is effectively bringing Garda compensation claims within the remit of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board, PIAB. As a former...

Seanad: Animal Health and Welfare and Forestry (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2021: Committee Stage (Resumed) (22 Mar 2022)

Gerry Horkan: Much of today's debate has been pretty similar to the previous debate with the Minster, Deputy McConalogue, and the Minister of State, Senator Hackett. I happened to be in the Chair on the day in question. The points are very well made but I ask that Senators try not to repeat points that were very well made in the two previous debates. This is not to curtail the debate. There are 37 more...
