Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: Very familiar.

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: That is what it looks like to me, and I think that theory should be entertained. After all this extraordinary fuss, an investment house from America, which is really a vulture fund, took the Project Eagle portfolio. Does NAMA not feel a bit uncomfortable that Cerberus is coming at it again for Project Arrow?

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: They buy up distressed assets. That is what vulture funds do.

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: That is what Cerberus does.

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: Does Mr. Daly believe that Cerberus is flipping NAMA's portfolio now? Mr. Daly said they were going to make a profit of 7% or 8%.

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: That is what you say, but I am not sure whether Cerberus is saying that.

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: I am just finishing up.

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: Unfortunately, considering its history, Cerberus is still going to raise its heads again in this bid. What about Goldman Sachs? Why did it pull out?

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: Yes.

Public Accounts Committee: National Asset Management Agency: Financial Statements 2014 (Resumed) (1 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: Okay. I am finishing now. Having listened to Mr. Daly, I think I would stand by what I said earlier. Obviously, NAMA's integrity is not in question. Nobody questions that at all, but on this deal, NAMA has done the taxpayer absolutely no service at all and it should be making a victim impact statement here rather than appearing as a witnesses.

European Council Meeting: Statements (7 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: I have listened to a large number of these debates since I came into the Dáil and there is a similarity about them that is depressing. The conclusion one comes to every time one reads a speech from a Minister or the Taoiseach is that Ireland is a passenger on the European train and that we do not really count. I wonder sometimes what happens when the Irish delegation arrives. Perhaps...

Corporate Tax Policy: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (7 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: When I heard that Deputy Boyd Barrett was sponsoring a motion on multinationals, I instinctively thought I could not live with it comfortably. However, having read its text and having noted its moderate tone, I must admit I find it pretty palatable and reasonable. I do not understand why the Government cannot accept it because really, if one considers it in its raw form and strips out much...

Written Answers — Department of Environment, Community and Local Government: Irish Water Remit (7 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: 197. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if he will amend the 2013 Irish Water Act to allow Irish Water or the local authority to accept responsibility for all sewage mains and infrastructure, that is manholes and interchanges, including those running through non-public property, where these networks were historically maintained by the local authority; and if...

Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Car Test (7 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: 202. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his plans to deal with the current backlog in available appointments for the national car test; the current average waiting time for an appointment; his plans to increase the number of test centres, or to follow the United Kingdom model and authorise local garages to undertake the testing; and if he will make a statement on the matter....

Deaths of Garda and Members of the Traveller Community: Expressions of Sympathy (13 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: The Tánaiste rightly said it should have been a weekend of celebration, and it was, but it turned out to be a weekend of great tragedy, which overshadowed an opportunity for great celebration for the nation. All the eloquent words that already have been spoken cannot express the shock and sorrow which struck people in this House and nationwide and which all Members feel today....

Financial Resolutions 2016 - Budget Statement 2016 (13 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: Had the Government not levied an additional 50 cent on cigarettes, I would wonder what the Cabinet had been smoking. I am astounded by the unreality of that with which Members have been presented today. I suspect very few Members in this House remember 1977, which was a time when Fianna Fáil bought its way back into government by producing a totally and utterly tailored manifesto to...

Written Answers — Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Employment Rights (13 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: 90. To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation when the recently completed study by the University of Limerick on the subject of zero-hour contracts will be published; if he will provide a comprehensive list of the stakeholders to be consulted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [35536/15]

Written Answers — Department of Children and Youth Affairs: Child Care Costs (13 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: 226. To ask the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs his plans to increase funding or provide subsidies for child care to support families where both parents are working, in the upcoming budget; if he considers that such support is necessary, given the extremely high cost of child care; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [35277/15]

Written Answers — Department of Health: Disability Services Funding (13 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: 288. To ask the Minister for Health his plans to increase funding in the upcoming budget for independent living facilities for adults with learning disabilities; if he will consider the need for greater services and facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [35492/15]

Order of Business (14 Oct 2015)

Shane Ross: Will the Taoiseach consider giving Government time to a Bill I have on the Order Paper today? It would deprive the Taoiseach and all future taoisigh of the power to dissolve the Dáil. This is introduced in light of-----
