Michael Fitzmaurice: Then Google is wrong.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I want to try to get to Mr. Carlin. Could Ms Hurley explain where the 7,500 ha or 8,000 ha of standing forest that Coillte bought, such as in County Tipperary or whatever, come in because that is already accounted for? That will not help our mitigation. Does Ms Hurley agree?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Okay. The Minister stated to us that he believes Coillte will change its model. Has the Department talked to Coillte about that? There was a lot of backlash from the Gresham House fund. Is Coillte looking at a different model now or is it staying on 100,000 ha under that model? I just want a quick yes-no answer on that because I want to let Mr. Carlin in.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I have heard there are people in Brussels today and my understanding is that it seems where we are getting caught at the moment on the new programme is there is seemingly a lot of confusion in Brussels about the rewetting and spruce or pine on peatlands. Has that matter been resolved between Coillte and the Department?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Brussels seems to be unhappy about the trees on the peaty ground, to put it simply, and under the new programme, officials want to see clear markers or whatever of how this will be resolved. It is my understanding based on what I am from Brussels today. Coillte has a plan of what it will do. Will that cause a problem if Coillte takes 30,000 ha of trees out and rewets the land, it will be...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Is there 120,000 ha on peaty ground?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Okay that is grand. Can Mr. Carlin address Mote Park as I want to let others in?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: They would not say that at the moment.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Will Mr. Carlin meet them? That is all I want to know.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I will give Mr. Carlin the details so he can meet them because I want to let the next person in.

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (2 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: We all need to acknowledge the work done by the emergency services in Wexford yesterday evening. I will comment on another part of the country, community healthcare organisation, CHO, 2. I am specifically dealing with County Roscommon, where we have been inundated over the past eight to ten months by parents of children aged between three and 15 or 16 regarding CAMHS services, ADHD and...

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (2 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: There are ten or 12.

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (2 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I will furnish the Tánaiste with the details of that blood test and the ten-month wait. Regarding services for speech and language and psychology, there is a ferocious deficit at the moment. Perhaps the Tánaiste did not pick up my point. If the HSE is not able to provide a service in the area and the parents are willing to drive somewhere they can get it, I ask that those...

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (2 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Under the funding for people who provide accommodation for Ukrainian refugees, it has been brought to my attention in recent days that, early on, when the Government was looking for accommodation places, it was spending money fairly freely - I am referring to Athlone specifically but there are other places in my constituency - but it is like a broken-down subbie at the moment. I know of two...

Credit Union (Amendment) Bill 2022 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (2 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: This is the first time I have been in a debate with the Minister of State since her appointment. I wish her the best of luck in her new position. In respect of the Bill, I note the representative bodies of the credit unions emailed every Deputy about the pieces that are of concern to them. I ask the Minister of State and her team to be proactive in addressing their concerns. I know...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: What we found unusual, to be honest about it, was that it went through the Land Registry on 23 December 2022-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Let us not put it on the farmer. I believe a lot of farmers are willing to plant part of their land, be it 1 acre or two or whatever. If farmers wanted to plant this minute there is not a place to put an application in and there probably will not be until halfway or three quarters of the way into this year. That needs to be clarified.
