Joan Freeman: Who has the power to say that from now on these students will have their expenses paid and that from now on we will look at X, Y and Z for all our social workers? Professor Gilligan is talking about the retention and recruitment of social workers but who has the final say on that? Professor Gilligan is saying nobody has that.

Joan Freeman: Professor Norris has said this has been brought up many times. - Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Women's Aid Impact Report 2018: Discussion (8 May 2019)
Joan Freeman: It is horrifying to listen to the facts presented, many of which I could not even absorb. I have just two brief questions. Ms Martin stated that there is little or no service available to children when they witness violence in the home. What services are available and what needs to be done in this regard? I know that our guests represent Women's Aid and that this is about women, but...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Children's Rights Alliance Report Card 2019: Discussion (8 May 2019)
Joan Freeman: I thank the witnesses for their report. One of my questions follows a question from the Chairman. I do not know if I am understanding this right. It has to do with the Travellers. I remember that we invited Pavee Point to an Oireachtas meeting on mental health. One of the figures that stands out to me all the time is that 90% of Traveller men will not reach the age of 60. That alone is...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Children's Rights Alliance Report Card 2019: Discussion (8 May 2019)
Joan Freeman: The solution is to involve people from the Traveller community in government. They should be on county councils or running for election. Is that happening at all? I cannot understand how the money is being sent back. The second question I have relates to my one-trick pony, namely, mental health. Has the Children's Rights Alliance made any findings on mental health on children and the...
