- Seanad: Redundancy Payments (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: I acknowledge the Minister is aware of the issue. However, I am concerned that only five additional staff members have been allocated which, in essence, constitutes an increase of 25%. This is not a huge increase in the allocation.
- Seanad: Redundancy Payments (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: Will the Minister go back to his Cabinet colleague and ask for an increased allocation? The allocation of an additional five staff members to deal with the 50,000 claims in 2011 will not decrease the rate by a significant amount. There are staff members within the system who could be reallocated and I ask that more be done.
- Seanad: Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (8 Nov 2011)
Mark Daly: Do not hold that against us, a Chathaoirligh. Mayo will definitely rise again. I welcome the Minister to the House and I thank him for addressing this important issue, which was raised by our alleged friends in Europe in their continued attempt to harmonise our corporation tax rate with their level, thereby taking away our competitive advantage. We are well aware that the French and the...
- Seanad: Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (8 Nov 2011)
Mark Daly: Obviously, I was aware of the recommendation made to the European Union by the Standing Order 103 Select Committee of the Dáil. That we lost the vote there does not bode well for the future of the consolidated corporation tax base we currently enjoy. Frau Merkel and Monsieur Sarkozy are writing common letters because they want this issue to be resolved before 2012. They want to help their...
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2011)
Mark Daly: I look forward to a debate on registration fees for third level colleges, an issue raised by other Senators. We are all familiar with the famous photograph which will become infamous from here to eternity of the Minister and then Deputy Quinn signing a pledge not to raise fees. It was a little like the Treaty of Limerick in that not only was the ink not dry but before he picked up the pen...
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2011)
Mark Daly: My colleagues have misinterpreted what I said. As we know, the EU-IMF bailout is a temporary measure. Other countries that have gone into such a programme, including the United Kingdom, have come out of it. The Government does not seem to have a counter-proposal to what will be proposed next Friday.

- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2011)
Mark Daly: Yes. I am asking the Leader to organise a debate on the lack of a reference to democracy during the debate on the euro. Democracy should be central. Europe is always telling us about the importance of decision-making. Decisions are now being made by bureaucrats. This week marks the 90th anniversary of a treaty that was agreed without consultation with the people. It led to dire consequences.
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2011)
Mark Daly: I have.
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2011)
Mark Daly: I would like to ask the Leader to organise a debate. It is ironic that my colleague has admitted that the country is destroyed.

Mark Daly: I do not think the country is destroyed.

Mark Daly: If you want a debate on it, you are entitled to a debate.
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2011)
Mark Daly: If you want to address me outside the Chamber, there is no problem in the world with that.
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2011)
Mark Daly: If you are going to address me in the Chamber and not give me the right to reply-----
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2011)
