[3514/15]

Written Answers — Department of Environment, Community and Local Government: Pyrite Remediation Programme Expenditure (27 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: 515. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if he will provide an estimate of the number of pyrite damaged houses which will be remediated using the funds provided by the taxpayer in the last and current budget; the additional funds that will be made available to remediate houses damaged by pyrite heave; and his views on the surplus of €25 million declared...

Other Questions: Social and Affordable Housing Provision (28 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: 8. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government the number of new social homes that are targeted to be built by the local authorities in 2015 and 2016 arising from the Government's housing strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3650/15]

Other Questions: Social and Affordable Housing Provision (28 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: I ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government how many social homes will be built by local authorities in 2015 and 2016 arising from the Government's housing strategy. The information that I have received indicates that it will be nowhere near the numbers outlined in the strategy. Will the Minister provide a breakdown by local authority of the number of homes...

Other Questions: Social and Affordable Housing Provision (28 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: If the Minister could provide a breakdown by local authority, that would be even more helpful. Let me get this straight: he anticipates 22,300 housing in the housing strategy but indicates that 1,400 houses will be built next year. That is far below the target he outlined previously. We should not fool people out there who are desperate. The 2,000 units to be leased from private landlords...

Other Questions: Social and Affordable Housing Provision (28 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: When?

Other Questions: Social and Affordable Housing Provision (28 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: I have the figures here. It is outlined in the Social Housing Strategy 2020 that the Government will invest €2.2 billion from 2015 to 2017, inclusive. That works out at a capital investment in social housing averaging €733 million a year. In 2010, the Fianna Fáil-Green Party Government invested €980.6 million on social affordable housing. Therefore, this...

Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Family Reunification (28 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: 72. To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if she will report on the increase in processing time in family re-unification visas due to lack of resources and a higher volume of applications; if she will increase the resources to minimise the hardship on separated families; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3983/15]

Written Answers — Department of Health: Medical Card Eligibility (28 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: 96. To ask the Minister for Health if he will alter medical card guidelines in order that those under 26 years of age who are in receipt of less than €164 per week are ineligible for medical cards as they are deemed dependent on parents (details supplied). [4013/15]

Redress for Women Resident in Certain Institutions Bill 2014: Second Stage (Resumed) (29 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: I was not in this Chamber two years ago but I watched on my television as the current Taoiseach, Deputy Enda Kenny, made a very moving and impassioned speech to the Magdalen women. In fact, during the course of the speech, the Taoiseach was even moved to tears. However, when we look at what is on offer for those women today we would have to conclude they were crocodile tears, not real tears....

Redress for Women Resident in Certain Institutions Bill 2014: Second Stage (Resumed) (29 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: This is very much related to the way that women were treated by the church-----

Redress for Women Resident in Certain Institutions Bill 2014: Second Stage (Resumed) (29 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: -----and the State in this country, if the Ceann Comhairle does not mind. It is very relevant.

Redress for Women Resident in Certain Institutions Bill 2014: Second Stage (Resumed) (29 Jan 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: My point is it is part of a pattern. It has been continued and it has not ended. Previous speakers who the Ceann Comhairle may not have heard of, claimed that this is in our dark past. Finally, what is the State dishing up to lone parents and, as they used to be termed, so-called "unmarried mothers"? Austerity is what they are dishing up. Lone parents have been the biggest victims of...

Leaders' Questions (3 Feb 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: Today, Irish Water issued its fourth deadline for people to register their details. People have a fourth chance to register with them in April. Apart from it being a subversion of the English language, does the Taoiseach agree it is another sign of desperation on the part of the Government and Irish Water? It seems the Labour Party and the Labour Minister have as flexible and attitude to...

Leaders' Questions (3 Feb 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: It is a registration rate of less than 50% despite the best efforts of the Taoiseach. That is accompanied by the €100 people get for doing nothing but registering with Irish Water. The Government should not take it as any guarantee that those people will pay the bills when they arrive in April. Will the Taoiseach proceed with his despicable plan to steal money for Irish Water...

Leaders' Questions (3 Feb 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: Yet again the Taoiseach failed to answer my central question on whether he is happy with the registration figures. I will take his reply as a "No". It is obvious that if people do not register, even though the Government is giving them €100 to do so, they are unlikely to pay the water charges in April. I was offering him a chance to save his own skin by retreating from this abysmal...

Leaders' Questions (3 Feb 2015)

Leaders' Questions (3 Feb 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: Happily, in any meetings I attended people no longer believed the media. There is huge cynicism in that regard-----

Leaders' Questions (3 Feb 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: The bills are coming in April, and that is the focus of the Anti-Austerity Alliance and the We Won't Pay campaign. We will be linking up with tens of thousands of other people all around the country, speaking at meetings where we can and assisting communities in boycotting these bills. A huge number of people have already decided not to pay and I think many more will be joining them.

Leaders' Questions (3 Feb 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: Is the Taoiseach happy with the registration figures given that the return rate is less than 50%? If he is not happy, what does he plan to do about it? Clearly he should retreat on water charges.
