Brian Stanley: I thank the Minister.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: My first question is for Coillte and concerns setback distances from dwellings. I understand there was a setback distance of 30 m, which was subsequently increased to 60 m. A question arises with replanting and so on. As I understand it, private forestry must stay with the 60 m minimum regime. Is Coillte sticking with that or replanting into the original 30 m setback from dwellings?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: The setback is 60 m then.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: I have a question for the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Legal action is being pursued against directors of an insurance company that has a 1,000 acre forestry portfolio.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: I am very careful like that. In this case the company failed to return the 30-year lock-in investment. The Central Bank has confirmed that the company in question was neither authorised nor supervised by the regulator, which puts any claim of mis-selling for the shareholders outside of the jurisdiction of the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman. Can the Department comment in general...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: That is not the question I asked. The question I asked concerns the Department providing incentives or grants to companies or any kind of investment entity that is not regulated by the financial regulator or registered. Such a company is then beyond the reach of the financial regulator. What checks does the Department carry out to ensure that that does not happen?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: Yes. This is a multimillion euro industry now.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: Mr. Hayes is not answering the question about the Department providing the incentives. In the light of cases such as this arising, is it the Department's intention to pick up the phone to the financial regulator to ensure that before the Department pays out any subsidies, grants or incentives, the regulator checks that the company is registered with the regulator? Could the most senior...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: My next question is for Coillte and concerns increasing the land mass. Coillte was seen as a company that took over, acquired and bought huge land masses. In the constituency I live in, Laois-Offaly, there is a big footprint. In this regard, and bearing in mind that Coillte does not get the same incentives as the private investors, which puts it at somewhat of a disadvantage, does Coillte...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Forestry and Climate Change: Discussion (11 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: Has Coillte had much dialogue with Bord na Móna regarding large cutaway areas of bog?

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (12 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: The programme for Government contains a commitment to bring about sustainability in the beef sector. According to leaked documents from the supermarket industry, which contain startling information, supermarket chains are taking up to half of the retail price in profit. They have average profit margins of between 20% and 45% on fresh meat and fresh beef, of between 30% and 33% on round...

Written Answers — Department of Health: Occupational Therapy Provision (12 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: 259. To ask the Minister for Health when a child (details supplied) will be seen for occupational therapy services. [52393/19]

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: There is a commitment in the programme for Government regarding home help services. I know of the case of a 97 year old woman in County Laois. She was born on the day Michael Collins was shot dead and was hospitalised in July. She had a home help prior to that. She had two weeks of respite care and was released from hospital and sent home on 26 July. Since then, I have done everything to...

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: The letter states that although she is deemed to require assistance, the quantity of service is limited to available budgets. He adds that he regrets that his response cannot be more favourable. This woman was born on the day Michael Collins died.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: We put more than €17 billion into the health service this year and we cannot get five hours' home help for this woman.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Dec 2019)

Brian Stanley: She is in hospital and cannot come home because she does not have home help.
