Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: It is not in addition to it, because these are the parameters of the scheme. That is fine. Turning to the number of co-ordinators in County Mayo, was it stated that there are two co-ordinators in place?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: This needs to be done urgently. I commend Ms Gleeson for all the work she has done. Single-handedly, she has done her very best to help every impacted homeowner in County Mayo. I commend her for this. We cannot, though, get away from the fact that we are working to standards that are not fit for purpose, which is an aspect of deep concern for me and for all the homeowners too. I do not...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I have documentation dating back to 2003 and 2005, when concerns about pyrrhotite were raised. What I am really trying to get my head around is why it was decided in IS 465 that pyrite was in County Mayo and mica was in County Donegal. Who is Ms Larkin handing over to?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: Why did IS 465 not ask for the testing of pyrrhotite? Why was there a test for mica and pyrite?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: It was as far back as 2002.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: It was 2022. In terms of the European standards, and their transposition, was pyrrhotite referred to in them?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: So it was? We were aware of it at that time.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: Why was it not included then? Who decided that it would not be included?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I am sorry. Who decided that it was not identified?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: Who undertook that testing?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I am sorry. I am just confused in this regard. I will tell Dr. Murphy why. In 2002, EN 12620 had a special precaution for pyrrhotite, an unstable iron sulphide mineral. If the mineral is known to be present, then a maximum sulphur content of 0.1% shall apply. I wonder why this was not a red flag in terms of who made the decision around just testing for pyrite.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: Yes.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Defective Concrete Blocks: Discussion (Resumed) (14 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: Does Dr. Murphy now think it was too narrow in the first instance?

Delivering Universal Healthcare: Statements (15 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: If one lives in Mayo or many parts of the west, the struggle to access neurology services is monumental. The regional inequality and inequity are stark. This is the account from just one young woman who is trying to ease her suffering. She is a 40-year-old mother of three young children living in rural Mayo and suffering with debilitating nerve pain in her face, a condition called...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Revenue Commissioners: Discussion (15 May 2024)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I thank Mr. Cody for being here. His statement is short but it has a lot of information about where we are and the risks ahead of us. The main matter that sticks out is that there seems to be substantially different profiles between the two groups, namely, those who have engaged and those who have not. On the face of it, it seems that larger companies with a larger quantum of debt...
