- Seanad: Health and Criminal Justice (Covid-19) (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2021: Committee and Remaining Stages (15 Dec 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I think the Senator understands perfectly why I cannot accept this amendment. We have discussed this previously. It is repetition at this stage so I will stand back and let the process take its course.
- Seanad: Health and Criminal Justice (Covid-19) (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2021: Committee and Remaining Stages (15 Dec 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: The Senator certainly brings a colourful approach to the debate and I thank him. There is no script that could be prepared for me that would have the answers for that. I will take on board much of what he has said and I will respond. I can only talk from a health perspective at all times because that is where I sit. I am a Minister of State within the Department of Health. For me to talk...
- Seanad: Health and Criminal Justice (Covid-19) (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2021: Committee and Remaining Stages (15 Dec 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I will make one last contribution before I finish. We will not force vaccinations on anybody.
- Seanad: Health and Criminal Justice (Covid-19) (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2021: Committee and Remaining Stages (15 Dec 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: Vaccination is a choice. I need to make that clear. It is a choice for parents. I believe in a choice-based approach. The only people I forgot to mention when I spoke about what has been successful were retired people who got involved in the vaccination process. Perhaps we could put out a cry for help for them to come back on board. The retired community gave invaluable time. They...

- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (16 Dec 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank the Deputy for raising that question. There is no organisation left starved for cash after this budget. One of my major priorities in funding this year was respite. The real issue is we have to reduce staff in buildings where we have the virus. I am happy to say all the organisations are working hard to bring it back up to 100% capacity to ensure families get the respite they need.
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (16 Dec 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank the Deputy for asking those questions. On her first point, the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Deputy O'Gorman, and I are currently putting together proposals that we hope to bring forward in the new year. On the primary medical certificate, I have awarded €8 million this year for respite houses and centres so they can upgrade their...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (16 Dec 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank the Ceann Comhairle very much. Today at 2 o'clock, I am meeting with all the heads of the HSE from right around the country to first and foremost understand their plan with regard to how they are addressing the virus, but most importantly also to note that the therapist staff, who are part of my 91 network disability teams, are to remain within the teams and therapy is to be...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters: Aligning Disability Services with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Discussion (Resumed) (25 Nov 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: From a political and Government point of view, the investment has gone into SNAs and special education teachers. There is willingness to support the family, child, individual and the school. There seem to be stumbling blocks. There are different geographical locations where we are hitting barriers, which we need to peel into.
- Violence Against Women: Statements (19 Jan 2022)
Anne Rabbitte: It is 3 a.m. I am in my bed alone. The phone rings. I shake off the sleep and answer. A man's voice, violent and determined: “We know where you are. You need to back off the lines. We will get you.” My voice catches in my throat. I cannot breathe. I say nothing. “Are you hearing me? We will get you.” Then silence. Just me, on my own, and the darkness....
