Martin Conway: I also would like to welcome the Speaker, Michelle Roberts, and her husband, Greg, to the Distinguished Visitors’ Gallery. Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 May 2024)

Martin Conway: Today's announcement by the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste and the Minister, Deputy Ryan, regarding Palestine is very welcome. There is never a right time to do these things. I concur with the concerns voiced by Senator Malcolm Byrne. It has to be done appropriately and properly. We will all reiterate our call for an immediate ceasefire, the opening of humanitarian aid and a stop to what is...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Employment of Consultants and Non-consultant Hospital Doctors in Public Hospitals: Irish Medical Organisation (22 May 2024)

Martin Conway: I thank the witnesses for attending. Ms Clyne paints a bleak picture. One thing that struck me in Ms Clyne's statement was that people feel pressurised into working extra shifts they are not rostered for when they have already maxed out their time commitment. That leads to the assumption there could be patient safety issues. Are the witnesses aware of any examples where, as a result of...

Martin Conway: I thank the Minister of State very much for her opening statement. I now invite colleagues to ask any questions they see fit and I start with Senator Higgins, please.

Committee on Scrutiny of Draft EU-related Statutory Instruments: Engagement with Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs (23 May 2024)

Martin Conway: I thank Senator O’Reilly. I take this opportunity to commend him on his continuing work on behalf of our country in the Council of Europe. It is a very important body that has done enormous work over the years and the Senator has played an integral part of that, particularly during his period as vice president of that august body. Committee on Scrutiny of Draft EU-related Statutory Instruments: Engagement with Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs (23 May 2024)

Our Leas-Chathaoirleach was chairing the Seanad during the Order of Business, so he was unavoidably not present for the Minister of State’s opening statement. However, given the fact that he played such a key role in the formation of this committee, I will ask him...
