Catherine Connolly: Or the unfair deal, on occasion. I am confused about it. There is a charge on one's property of up to 7% for a maximum of three years, and one can opt into that as a way of paying for nursing home care. Eventually, when the property is sold, the money is paid. Is that right?

Public Accounts Committee: HSE Financial Statements 2015 and 2016
Clarification of Matters Relating to Meeting of 2 February 2016
(15 Jun 2017)

Catherine Connolly: Yes, I understand that. My question is whether I am mixing up two things. Is there the option of the charge on one's property of up to 21% and a separate loan scheme or are they one and the same thing?

Public Accounts Committee: HSE Financial Statements 2015 and 2016
Clarification of Matters Relating to Meeting of 2 February 2016
(15 Jun 2017)

Catherine Connolly: That is fine, I will await the answer. I am confused myself. In terms of the nursing homes themselves, as I understand it, 80% are private and only 20% are public. Does the HSE have that statistic?

Leaders' Questions (20 Jun 2017)

Catherine Connolly: A Thaoisigh nua, power is a privilege that should and must be exercised in a manner that is open, accountable and compliant with the democratic process, including the relevant legislation behind a given decision. That democratic process gave us the Dáil we have today, with no overall majority for either of the bigger parties and with the strong message from the electorate that they did...

Leaders' Questions (20 Jun 2017)

Catherine Connolly: I fully understand the cynicism of the public. Once again, the Taoiseach has refused to answer the question. He has obfuscated and talked about new legislation. The absence of legislation was not a problem in this case; there is legislation in place. The kernel of the issue is that the Taoiseach failed to comply with it and to give an explanation as to why he had not complied with it and...

Leaders' Questions (20 Jun 2017)

Catherine Connolly: That is not what I asked.
