- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: That leads me to the interesting intervention made by our learned colleagues, the former Attorneys General. I will be supporting the referendum on Thursday because I believe that, like other parliaments, we should have powers to investigate. We should have confidence in ourselves to investigate those who have done wrong, the vested interests.

- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: I am speaking in support of the proposal made. The person concerned was criticised in the last inquiry conducted by the Houses; it is no wonder, therefore, that he does not want to see powers being granted which could be used to bring him before them again.
- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: Will the Leader ask the Attorney General to come before the House? We have the power to do this. I have already asked for him to attend under Standing Order 56 on a different issue. Other individuals signed the letter to the newspaper.

Mark Daly: Senator Rónán Mullen does not have the confidence to carry out inquiries on behalf of the public, other than people at bar counters who have a vested interest in this issue.

- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: I am supporting the amendment proposed because once again there are vested interests having another go.
- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: They are using the trojan horse, saying the Oireachtas would have too much power and that as a result the people should not support the proposed amendment to the Constitution.

Mark Daly: What is proposed is done in America, England and elsewhere, yet-----
- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: Mark my words - Mr. Dermot Gleeson who was chairman of AIB will appear before an Oireachtas inquiry, as he should.
- Seanad: Access to Central Treasury Funds (Commission for Energy Regulation) Bill 2011: Second Stage (Resumed) (26 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: I welcome the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Deputy Pat Rabbitte, and wish him luck in finding oil and gas. While Fianna Fáil does not oppose the Bill in principle, I have several questions about the legislative measures proposed. The anticipated implementation costs of the programme are approximately â¬5 million. The levy on the industry will not be imposed...
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: Like Senator Byrne, I am also concerned by the rush to welcome what was agreed at 4 a.m. Anything that is agreed at that hour can generally have flaws in it.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: I hear my learned colleagues opposite agreeing to that statement. I presume they were not out last night until 4 a.m.ââ
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: ââbut not elsewhere in Europe, I would say.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: While I take on board all that was said by Senator Quinn, I ask the Leader for a debate on what emerged last night. There is now talk of a referendum next spring. As I told the German ambassador, when he was in the Oireachtas during the summer, and to his colleague from the Bundestag, there is no chance that a referendum will be passed in Ireland. It is as simple as this: if the Greeks get...
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: On his concerns over directors and cosy deals, the committee found out yesterday that some of the people who liquidated their companies are to be paid commission if they get back more than half of what they lost. The people need to know the facts and to have transparency. Everything should be in the public domain and anybody should be able to find out what properties are in NAMA.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: I am asking him for a debate. I support the call of the Fine Gael Senator from Kerry for a debate on the lack of transparency in NAMA.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: My other colleague from Kerry does not seem to agree, but I am afraid the evidence is mounting against Senator Coghlan. There is no transparency and the taxpayer is carrying a huge burden as a consequence.
- Seanad: Redundancy Payments (27 Oct 2011)
Mark Daly: That is a first for me also. It is nice to see the Minister going off script. This is what Senator Crown referred to when he spoke of leadership as opposed to management. My query relates to the processing time of redundancy payments and the steps the Department will take to ensure it is shortened. There has been a transfer of responsibility to the Department of Social Protection. The...
