- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Impact of Brexit on Transport Sector: Discussion (6 Feb 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I ask Mr. Keogh to provide an update on the issue of pilots licences and so on, which accounted for a significant element of the document that was issued.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Impact of Brexit on Transport Sector: Discussion (6 Feb 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: There is no issue in regard to pilots with an EU licence working for an airline which has a third country licence. The licences are stand-alone and it is possible that it would be okay to do so. I thank Mr. Keogh for outlining the work and consideration he has put into this matter.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (7 Feb 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I have a question for the Leader. There is a one billion plus company called HID Global which has a base in Inverin in Connemara with more than 100 employees. It announced yesterday that it is moving to the far side of Galway city. As the Minister knows, 100 jobs in rural Ireland are critically important. This is a big hit to the Cois Fharraige area. The vast majority of those employees...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (12 Feb 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Táim buíoch as ucht deis labhairt anseo inniu mar gheall ar chúrsaí gnóthaí beaga small and medium sized enterprises. I totally echo and support Senator Robbie Gallagher's comments. Tá an ceart aige go hiomlán. It is a major issue. We in both Houses are neglecting small and medium-sized businesses in Ireland and particularly in the Border counties....
- Seanad: Personal Injuries Assessment Board (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2018: Second Stage (12 Feb 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I will not take ten minutes. It will be much shorter than that. I welcome the Minister and strongly congratulate her and the Government on bringing forward this legislation. It is very important. Its purpose is to encourage co-operation with the board. As the Minister says, it will make things a lot more streamlined and efficient. In some cases, its purpose is to disincentivise...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (28 Feb 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I second Senator Devine's amendment. Last week, under the leadership of the Cathaoirleach, I was fortunate to be one of a small number of people, with Senator Mulherin and Deputy Brassil, to attend the United Nations in New York on Thursday and Friday. It was a real eye-opener and a very important event. We met the Irish Permanent Representative to the UN, H.E. Geraldine Byrne Nason....

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Go raibh maith agat.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (7 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Táim ag iarraidh labhairt ar feadh cúpla nóiméad mar gheall ar ghnólachtaí beaga agus meánmhéide - small and medium-sized enterprises, SMEs. The Leas-Chathaoirleach chaired the meeting of the Seanad Public Consultation Committee focused on SMEs. We hope to have a draft report ready for the committee's approval in the coming weeks. I am the rapporteur...
- Seanad: Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019: Committee and Remaining Stages (13 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I wish to ask a generic question in the finance area. One part relates to VAT. I am particularly interested in VAT for SMEs. At the moment if a company registered for VAT in Ireland acquires a service or goods from the UK, no VAT is charged coming or going. My understanding from the proposed legislation - I am glad Senator Norris raised this - is that now there is a VAT liability on...
- Seanad: Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019: Committee and Remaining Stages (13 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I have a brief question about the common travel area. Is the fingerprinting requirement there already? Is it something new that has been brought in? How is it relevant to the whole area of Brexit? I cannot get the connection between the fingerprinting requirement and Brexit. This Bill provides that the "Minister or an immigration officer, where he or she considers it necessary for the...
- Seanad: Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019: Committee and Remaining Stages (13 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I am sorry; I must be reading the wrong one.
- Seanad: Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019: Committee and Remaining Stages (13 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: On his way in the Minister said he might have the opportunity to answer the question I asked the previous Minister who was here about the common travel area and the taking of fingerprints, but I do not know if he is in a position to answer. I thank a young man from Gweedore, Fredericó Quintanilha, which by any measure is not a Donegal name. He has come from Brazil to live here and been...
- Seanad: Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2016: Second Stage (Resumed) (26 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit. Táim ag ceapadh go bhfuil a fhios aige chomh maith is atá a fhios agam faoi phortaigh. Tá seans ann go raibh sé féin ag baint móna i bportach timpeall ar Mhaigh Cuilinn siar sa lá. They say that one can know somebody who spent a lot of time on the bog by looking at his or her hands. I know the Cathaoirleach...
- Seanad: Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2016: Second Stage (Resumed) (26 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Well they did not in our time. I also know that the Minister of State spent time up in the bog. He knows what it is like to cut turf, spread it, wait for it to dry, bring it out to the side of the road, and then get a tractor and bring it home. That was the staple diet for people like us, working class people, in places like Connemara. We did not have oil or anything like that. I...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (27 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I dtosach báire, beidh deireadh seachtaine againn ag foghlaim Gaeilge ar an gCeathrú Rua ar an Aoine, 26 Aibreán go dtí Dé Domhnach, 28 Aibreán. Is do Seanadóirí agus Teachtaí Dála é sin. Seans gurb é seo an chéad uair riamh go raibh a leithéid de chúrsa ar bun. Tá sé eagraithe i gcomhréir le Ollscoil...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (27 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Gabhaim buíochas don Seanadóir. Tá súil agam go mbeidh na Seanadóirí ann. Deireadh an-mhaith a bheas ann. Senators will stay with a bean an tí. Gaeilge an t-am ar fad. We will send them home if they speak English so caithfidh siad Gaeilge a labhairt an t-am ar fad mar tá siad ag dul ag an nGaeltacht.
