- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Affordable Child Care Scheme and Related Matters: Discussion (24 Jan 2018)
Kathleen Funchion: It is a very good course but some providers with a high number of children with additional needs did not receive a place on the course while other providers with fewer children with additional needs did. It is always difficult to figure that out. It is good to hear that more people are doing it this year.

- Topical Issue Debate: Company Closures (30 Jan 2018)
Kathleen Funchion: I am pleased to have the opportunity to discuss this issue. The ability of the collapse of a private company in another jurisdiction two weeks ago to have such an impact on the completion of school buildings in Ireland is, unfortunately, the direct result of public private partnerships. Our schools or other public buildings cannot be at the mercy of public private partnerships going wrong....
- Topical Issue Debate: Company Closures (30 Jan 2018)
Kathleen Funchion: With the greatest respect, the Minister's reply contained little that will allay fears among the schools in question. The issue of public private partnerships is a debate for a different day as it would not help the schools in question to discuss it now. The projects are at different stages, with some ready to go and staff waiting to be given the keys to the new buildings. These projects...

How is anybody supposed to be able to afford to even rent a home let alone buy one? Purchasing a home is...

- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Special Educational Needs Service Provision (1 Feb 2018)
Kathleen Funchion: I am concerned that the NCSE is saying it is meeting the requirements. Unfortunately it is not. I am not sure where it is getting its figures from, but in my constituency alone in the last number of months I have dealt with three cases of children who are due to start school in September and who have no school place. Starting school is a major step in anybody's life, but if a person has an...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Special Educational Needs Service Provision (1 Feb 2018)
Kathleen Funchion: I understand that the children are eligible for school transport, but it is not good enough that we are asking a five year old child to get on a bus at 7.30 a.m. so that he or she can be in school for 9 a.m. The child in that instance would be awake for over an hour and a half before they even get to school and begin to learn.
