- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Vision for the Future of Irish Farming: Macra na Feirme (26 Oct 2022)
Jackie Cahill: It is a significant issue because I think the price of leased land will spiral. It is high as it is. When farmers sit down to do their figures on this banding, the price of leased land will go further through the roof and push it further out of the hands of young farmers coming into the industry, or taking over a farm and trying to expand.

This means that witnesses have full defence in any defamation action for anything said at a committee meeting. However, witnesses are expected not to abuse this...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Vision for the Future of Irish Farming: Macra na Feirme (26 Oct 2022)
Jackie Cahill: I thank Mr. Murphy. He said in his opening statement that Veterinary Ireland desires to reduce the use and to make it clear that PVPs must be specific that when they use a product, it is needed. How can it marry that with the idea of a 12 month prescription?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Vision for the Future of Irish Farming: Macra na Feirme (26 Oct 2022)
Jackie Cahill: Yes but surely the objective of the Bill to reduce the use of products-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Vision for the Future of Irish Farming: Macra na Feirme (26 Oct 2022)
Jackie Cahill: A 12 month prescription of a foolscap page of the products a farmer might want over 12 months does not make sense.

Jackie Cahill: We have legislation that nobody is happy with.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Vision for the Future of Irish Farming: Macra na Feirme (26 Oct 2022)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Vision for the Future of Irish Farming: Macra na Feirme (26 Oct 2022)
Jackie Cahill: Was the decision to reduce the usage based on the results of that?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Vision for the Future of Irish Farming: Macra na Feirme (26 Oct 2022)
Jackie Cahill: The general scheme will give this committee a fair few headaches before it eventually proceeds to become legislation. I thank the witnesses for coming in to give their perspective, which is extremely important as key stakeholders in this industry. Vets are key to animal welfare and the protection of our reputation as food producers. The committee will adjourn until 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday,...

There are people here who are anxious to ask questions and to put them on the public record, so if you could keep your opening statement to around five minutes, Councillor Fallon, we would appreciate it.
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: An Garda Síochána (9 Nov 2022)
Jackie Cahill: Usually when Deputies get to their feet in this House, we are looking for resources to be put in place for our constituency. There is the nonsensical situation where access to a swimming pool in a town that locals have used since the establishment of the Garda depot in Templemore in 1965 is now being denied to them. This is nonsensical and makes no sense. Leaving the pool idle for the next...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: An Garda Síochána (9 Nov 2022)
Jackie Cahill: As I said, the Taoiseach met Deirdre Ryan, one of the protagonists in trying to get the pool open to the public of Templemore, and it is clearly not his view that this is Government policy. As for energy saving, surely swimming lessons for the children of Templemore is an activity that warrants public expenditure. This notion it is for energy saving just does not wash and is not acceptable....
- Water Policy: Statements (9 Nov 2022)
Jackie Cahill: I thank the Ceann Comhairle and it is great to see him back in the Chair. I thank Deputy O'Connor for letting me go first because I have to go to another engagement. My first point concerning Irish Water and its policy is that the process of transferring workers from county councils to Irish Water is currently under way. In County Tipperary, definitely there has not been enough...
