Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Anaerobic Digestion: Discussion (Resumed) (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: Is it the group's proposal that we should have national regulations set down for every local authority rather than it being able to work at its discretion or to its county development plan? Should every local authority right across the board follow the exact same process?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Curriculum Reform at Senior Cycle: Discussion (Resumed) (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: I thank the gentlemen for being here today. I apologise for missing the beginning. I was caught elsewhere but I got to tune in to their opening statements as they were speaking while I was running and I have a fair idea of what they are coming to us with. I will start by saying I am very much in favour of reform. I am very much in favour of enhanced continuous assessment. I will start...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Curriculum Reform at Senior Cycle: Discussion (Resumed) (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: I agree.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Curriculum Reform at Senior Cycle: Discussion (Resumed) (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: I thank Mr. Ó Caoimh for that. I agree with him, on the history element especially. It took some of the pressure off. That is what we are going for. That is why I would worry about the argument that it puts more pressure on students throughout the year. I know that far from all students go on to third level but for those who do, it is an enormous change - I remember it myself - to...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Curriculum Reform at Senior Cycle: Discussion (Resumed) (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: Do all schools have access to the same cloud system at present or is it just school by school, where they might have their own if they are paying for it or whatever?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Curriculum Reform at Senior Cycle: Discussion (Resumed) (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: I thank Mr. Gillespie. I would be interested in seeing what kind of data or statistics Mr. Jones has on the standard of science labs. I heard some during the week on access in all-girls schools to certain STEM subjects compared with all-boys schools or mixed schools. I have visited a lot of schools in my constituency as spokesperson on education for my party and I have noticed the science...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Curriculum Reform at Senior Cycle: Discussion (Resumed) (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: My point is a criticism of the leaving cert rather than the education or those giving the education. Definitely, the benefits are there on that side. My criticism is of the pressures that are on the young person to perform in the environment and a lot of that is around the regurgitation. Nevertheless, I fully get where Mr. Jones is coming from.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: All-Island Strategic Rail Review: Iarnród Éireann (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: I will start by congratulating Ms Considine on her new position and thank her for everything she did for Shannon Airport and the region while she was there. I also welcome Mr. Kenny. I represent north Tipperary so I want to ask about the regional line across north Tipperary from Limerick to Ballybrophy. It is a 52.25 miles in length and serves Castleconnell, Birdhill, Nenagh, Cloughjordan...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: All-Island Strategic Rail Review: Iarnród Éireann (22 Oct 2025)

Ryan O'Meara: There has been quite a significant level of funding with the continuous welded rail and the maintenance and improvement works on that line over the last decade or so. The frustration is that there are no additional services, the times at which they run do not suit commuters and the journey times are still so slow and the journey is so long. Until it is built in such a way that people can...
