- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: General Scheme of Greyhound Industry Bill 2017: Discussion (Resumed) (9 May 2017)
Martin Kenny: The witnesses are all very welcome. With regard to the number of litters, what is the norm at present? I would like to know this for my own expertise, if nothing else. With regard to sanctions, it was stated a person convicted of any animal welfare offence should not serve on the board. Surely such people should not own greyhounds or be involved in the industry at all, never mind be on...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Agriculture Cashflow Support Loan Scheme: Discussion (9 May 2017)
Martin Kenny: The witnesses are all very welcome. I thank them for attending and making their presentations. A couple of issues arise immediately for me. The advantage of the scheme was that the money was available without security being required. It was sold on that basis. However, everyone I speak to in the farming community went to the banks with which they deal generally and with which they all...
- Questions on Promised Legislation (11 May 2017)
Martin Kenny: The fracking Bill was brought through by my constituency colleague, Deputy Tony McLoughlin. It is a magnificent Bill and there is progress being made steadily as it moves through the Oireachtas. I seek an assurance. The Bill has been changed or adjusted slightly to become an amendment to the Petroleum and Other Minerals Development Act 1960. Will the Government set time aside to have it...
- Sale of Tickets (Sporting and Cultural Events) Bill 2017: Second Stage [Private Members] (11 May 2017)
Martin Kenny: I congratulate Deputy Quinlivan on bringing forward the Bill. This area has been in the minds of many young people. If a computer is on in my house late at night, it means someone is trying to buy tickets for something. Broadband comes to mind as an issue because the people in rural Ireland can never seem to get the tickets and we often blame broadband. There is also a tendency to believe...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: General Scheme of Greyhound Industry Bill 2017: Discussion (Resumed) (16 May 2017)
Martin Kenny: The witnesses are both very welcome. It is useful to have people come in and give us a broad range of views on the Bill. The greyhound industry has gone through much upheaval in recent years and we have been very aware of lobbies coming from all parts of the country to committee members and others in elected office on various issues, many of which have been raised today, especially in...

Martin Kenny: The primary focus of the Bill and Greyhound Racing Integrity Ireland is restoration of integrity. Even if we are seen to be going overboard in terms of what we are trying to do I believe it is the appropriate thing to do. Whatever needs to be done needs to done soon. Following enactment and implementation of this legislation a line will be drawn in the sand and we will be able to move on...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: General Scheme of Greyhound Industry Bill 2017: Discussion (Resumed) (16 May 2017)
Martin Kenny: In respect of the sanctions for doping and the issues that have come up in that regard, is there a bit of contradiction in looking for a red flag to appear beside the names on the race card for owners whose dogs test positive for cocaine or steroids? Surely if they test positive they should not be on the race card at all. My understanding was that the witnesses wanted a complete ban.
