Children (Amendment) Bill 2015 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (15 Jul 2015)

Clare Daly: I compliment the Minister and his staff. It is a great step forward and igood that we are passing this legislation before the recess. It is an important departure from the dark old days when children, like women, were treated as vessels. The Bill treats them as individuals with problems who can be worked with and make a valuable contribution to society. It is a great body of work. Well done.

Other Questions: Pyrite Remediation Programme (16 Jul 2015)

Clare Daly: We are now in a new phase of the scheme. Inevitably, there would be teething problems. The board is confident that it can achieve its target of having 600 houses completed by the end of next year. I welcome that and hope it is the case. I refer to some of the issues that have emerged during the remediation works. In some areas, when homeowners moved out, the job took longer because of...

Other Questions: Pyrite Remediation Programme (16 Jul 2015)

Clare Daly: We need to revisit the other structural issues that emerge, including in respect of HomeBond, for example. I do not know whether the Minister of State has done any work on this. He is correct that some of these matters are very serious. While the taxpayer should not be liable under this scheme, the homeowner should not be either. With regard to the basis of the scheme and the idea that...

Clare Daly: I am very shy.

Confidence in Taoiseach, the Attorney General and the Government: Motion (22 Sep 2015)

Clare Daly: This is an insult to the population and this House. The manner in which the Taoiseach presented this previously was quite breath-taking. I do not know how many people here have read the report but I have read it more than once. The version of it which the Taoiseach has presented to this House belies its actual content.
