Order of Business (17 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: As somebody who is an active farmer and currently purchasing fodder in the uplands in Wicklow, I take on board the Deputies' points and appreciate the issue in question. It is not fair to say that nothing has been done. There have been a number of incentives. Deputy Collins make shake his head-----

Order of Business (17 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: I did not interrupt the Deputy. Anyone who says they could have predicted last October that there would be a fodder shortage in the month of April when normally we would have weather-----

Andrew Doyle: We will have a debate on this issue for two hours this evening.

Order of Business (17 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: I know what is going on on the ground as much as any of the people who have spoken, probably more than most of them. If anybody says they could have predicted last October what the weather would be like in April and that we would have a late spring, they are in the wrong business.

Order of Business (17 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: We have introduced measures including a fodder import subsidy and a fodder transport subsidy. The Deputy said animals are dying. There has always been a welfare helpline in place for people who have a dire need for fodder who will get it, regardless. There is fodder within the country that is still being moved throughout the country and what is being assisted is the cost to transport that.

Both the Minister, Deputy Creed, and I have worked through our Department and with Teagasc, co-operatives, farming organisations and farmers themselves to find ways to help the farming community deal with this very challenging time. In response to the problems experienced in the west...

Questions on Promised Legislation (18 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: I am not fully familiar with the proposal about the statutory instrument, but if the Minister has said he intends to consult and revert to primary legislation, I presume that is what he will do. I can check.

Seanad: Fodder Shortage: Motion (18 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: How long do I have?

Seanad: Fodder Shortage: Motion (18 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: I hope I will get through it all. I hope Senators do not mind that I waited until everybody had made their contributions before thanking them. It was a far more measured debate than we had last night in the Dáil. Many of the points which were made are very reasonable and I would like to acknowledge that at the outset. Just before I start into my script, I would like to note that...

Community Employment Pension Scheme: Motion [Private Members] (24 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: I thank the Deputies who made passionate contributions and I acknowledge the people from CE schemes throughout the country. I can only apologise for my colleagues who are not here.

Community Employment Pension Scheme: Motion [Private Members] (24 Apr 2018)

Andrew Doyle: I did not interrupt Deputy McGrath. I want to clarify one point for the record. The Government accepts the first four points of the Fianna Fáil motion but deletes what comes after the fourth point. That is how it appears to me and I hope that, having read it a couple of times, I am right about that. Community employment supervisors and assistant supervisors are not employed by the...
