They have now become, effectively, chicanes where the cyclist must slow down or stop, or perhaps get off his or her bike. I have not used that stretch of the canal but this is a very serious issue. Gerry Horkan: It is important that we design them appropriately and iron out these kinds of problems and do not allow these facilities to be used in such a way. I do not like to raise what are usually local authority matters, but it is an important issue and it should be raised.
