Written Answers — Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Climate Change Policy (2 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: 144. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment if he will provide an update on the implementation of sectoral carbon budgets; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27391/22]

Written Answers — Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth: Gender Equality (2 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: 304. To ask the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth the detail of the ongoing work of his Department to tackle the gender pay gap; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16099/22]

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Challenge and Opportunity for Local Authorities in Climate Action: Discussion (31 May 2022)

Alan Farrell: I thank our guests for their comprehensive opening statements and fulsome answers to the questions that have been asked. The Chairman and Deputy O'Rourke may have been looking over my shoulder when I was writing down my questions earlier. They are probably the obvious questions in respect of the role and function of our guests in the context of climate action. I have a couple of questions...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Challenge and Opportunity for Local Authorities in Climate Action: Discussion (31 May 2022)

Alan Farrell: I started with Councillor Crossan.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Challenge and Opportunity for Local Authorities in Climate Action: Discussion (31 May 2022)

Alan Farrell: That was very comprehensive.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Challenge and Opportunity for Local Authorities in Climate Action: Discussion (31 May 2022)

Alan Farrell: Is there a timeframe for that, as it is rather pressing and it has been in the background for many years? The river basin management plan is not in its infancy but has been in existence for many years. It is only now being updated.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Challenge and Opportunity for Local Authorities in Climate Action: Discussion (31 May 2022)

Alan Farrell: I would imagine so. Chairman, that might be a subject this committee could come back to because it would be helpful for us to support our colleagues on the housing or transport committees, or both, to get into that. It is something that is critical to the delivery of the national climate action plans. Does anybody wish to make any observations on the one-off housing?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Challenge and Opportunity for Local Authorities in Climate Action: Discussion (31 May 2022)

Alan Farrell: I will conclude on this point. I fully agree with Mr. Moylan. There is a balance there and it is about making sure the services are delivered and the balance is right. However, the local authority system across the board should be very conscious of the level of vacancy and dereliction throughout the State and particularly in rural towns and villages. I might be from Malahide but I know...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister and Minister of State for coming before us. This is a broadly positive conversation about provision for Ukrainian children and I acknowledge the flexibility that the Department has shown on the back of a very difficult period with Covid-19 and facing into another difficult period in accommodating children from Ukraine. The Minister and Minister of State should be...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: Of course.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: I apologise for cutting across the Minister but is that a third of the 6,000 or all the children?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: I suppose the question could pertain to other facilities of that kind of size.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: Is there any information on that and the supports the Irish education system is or, as the case may be, is not offering them?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister for coming before us this evening. He was very comprehensive in his account of the services and supports available to Ukrainian students. I was somewhat heartened to hear about the mental health supports he has announced, although the details are yet to be agreed. In particular, the psychological supports he very briefly referenced will be key to ensuring that students...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Public Transport (14 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: 106. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will consider extending the 20% fare reduction on public transport journeys beyond the end of 2022; if he plans further fare reductions in Budget 2023; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30547/22]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Public Transport (14 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: The response of the Minister of State to the grouped questions is very welcome. The key question for us in the context of a cost-of-living crisis is to ask whether the fare reductions that have already been introduced are sustainable. I welcome the Minister of State's comments that she would very much like to see them being extended into 2023 but that is, I suppose, a budgetary decision...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Public Transport (14 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister of State again. It is essential that we as a Government support the reduction in the burden on people, particularly in the context of the cost-of-living crisis. I, of course, welcome the 50% existing reduction for students and the 20% reduction for everybody else and I would very much like to see that continue into 2023 and beyond. 9 o’clock If further scope...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Bus Services (14 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: While BusConnects is controversial in certain places, it really is not in others. We cannot wait for it on the north side, if I am quite honest, although there are a few pinch points along certain routes such as the Swords Road and the Malahide Road. I asked the NTA recently about the Swords Road. It serves Dublin Airport and is critical in serving the emerging city that is Swords. I was...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Transport Costs (14 Jun 2022)

Alan Farrell: I welcome the Minister of State's response. I understand the need to carry out further research when the scheme is bedded in. Two or three weeks ago, I raised the need to ensure certainty for the second half of the academic year in 2023. I encourage the Government to make a policy decision on ongoing fare reductions, as long as it is sustainable to do so, as I outlined in my prior remarks...
