- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (27 Nov 2019)
Catherine Ardagh: I was surprised to see farmers out protesting again today but I have much sympathy for them or all those who feel they cannot make a living after putting so much time and effort into a livelihood. We need to have a proper debate in this House on rural Ireland and putting a value on farmers, the sustainability of rural Ireland and farming and how much we value having fresh produce and good...

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (27 Nov 2019)
Catherine Ardagh: We all endure those problems. Last night I would have liked to have been a cyclist when I was leaving Leinster House. They were able to speed past all the traffic. It is a sensible way to do business but I would be too scared to cycle. I have tried it but until cycling infrastructure improves, many people will be like me and will not be comfortable cycling the roads.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (3 Dec 2019)
Catherine Ardagh: Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and, instead of celebrating diversity and inclusion, it is with regret that I speak of our failure to prioritise disability funding, particularly for those who need wheelchairs to get around and access shops and other places in their communities on a day-to-day basis. The waiting lists alone for the assessment of need by an...

Catherine Ardagh: I welcome some guests of mine to the Gallery today, the daltaí from Scoil Eoin on the Armagh Road. There are a few budding politicians among them and I ask all Members to give them a nice welcome here today.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (5 Dec 2019)
Catherine Ardagh: The first issue I wish to raise today is a familiar one to many of my friends in the Gallery, namely, The Star bingo in Crumlin village. Many people have been in touch with me about it. I understand legislation is coming in to limit the amount of money that can be given out in prize money. There is much concern that this will take away from the playing of bingo. I accept that issues such...

Catherine Ardagh: Mine is not community; it is commercial.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 Dec 2019)
Catherine Ardagh: I, too, welcome our visitors from Clontarf to the House. I hope there are a few budding politicians among the girls and that they enjoy their day. Today, I raise a report completed by Dr. Johnny Connolly of the University of Limerick in conjunction with An Garda Síochána from Dublin south-central. The report confirmed what we knew to be the case anecdotally and have discussed in...

Catherine Ardagh: Hear, hear.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (20 Mar 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: We meet in the Chamber in uncharted waters, in unprecedented times. The seating arrangements alone show the challenges that Covid-19 presents for us, as it did for the Dáil yesterday in the reduced numbers that attended the sitting. This virus will change how we live, work and play. It will change everything from now on. Yesterday, the Chief Medical Officer announced 191 more cases,...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (20 Mar 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: I hope it will be said again and again, that we must thank all our front-line workers including our doctors, nurses, hospital cleaners and catering staff. Our Seanad colleague, Senator Devine, has re-registered as a nurse, which is commendable. Nearly 24,000 people have signed up to the HSE's volunteer call. Words cannot say how grateful we are for the selfless actions of the many who are...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (20 Mar 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: I will not go through the elements of the Bill which should be improved or which I wish to highlighted. Once again, I thank front-line staff.
- Seanad: An Bille Sláinte (Caomhnú agus Cosaint agus Bearta Éigeandála eile ar mhaithe le Leas an Phobail), 2020: An Dara Céim - Health (Preservation and Protection and other Emergency Measures in the Public Interest) Bill 2020: Second Stage (20 Mar 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: I intend to share some of my time with Senator Clifford-Lee. I thank the Tánaiste for coming to the House. He gave a message, which I do not think was for us but was probably for the wider public, relating to people adhering to social distancing. Yesterday, I was driving around town when I had to go to vote in the Seanad elections. I noticed that there were many people on the street...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (27 Mar 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: I will be brief but I wish to raise a few issues relating to the legislation we passed last week. First, I extend my condolences and those of the Fianna Fáil group to the ten families who lost loved ones yesterday, as well as to those who lost loved ones in the past week due to Covid-19 and to those in intensive care. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha. I also commend the Leader...
- Seanad: An Bille um Bearta Éigeandála ar mhaithe le Leas an Phobail (Covid-19) 2020: An Dara Céim - Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Covid-19) Bill 2020: Second Stage (27 Mar 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: I am sharing time with Senator Clifford-Lee. I thank the Tánaiste for coming in. Fianna Fáil supports this Bill and the regulations brought in earlier in the week, especially concerning childcare. As the Tánaiste pointed out, the legislation to be passed is far-reaching and there are many sweeping measures that, at other times, we would have contemplated and scrutinised for...
- Seanad: Election of Cathaoirleach (29 Jun 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: Gabhaim comhghairdeas mór leis an gCathaoirleach. Is ónóir mhór í bheith mar Chathaoirleach ar an Seanad. I wish to congratulate you, a Chathaoirligh. I have known you for a long time. There were three votes in my house for one of your first elections: my dad, my brother and my mum. I think you probably got all of the votes at that time. It is a huge honour for...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (7 Jul 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: I agree with many colleagues who thanked our front-line workers, especially nurses, doctors and care workers in nursing homes and hospitals around the country. I thank our immigrant workers in particular, especially nurses and doctors, who were very much at the coalface of the Covid-19 outbreak. We have learned from academic reports that black, Asian, and minority ethnic, BAME, workers have...
- Seanad: Microenterprise Loan Fund (Amendment) Bill 2020: Second Stage (9 Jul 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: I thank the Minister of State for coming to the House today. It is very nice to be in this House. I did not want to step in too far in case it was bad luck for the future. I am a small business owner with fewer than five employees. Before Covid we were struggling. I have a small solicitor's practice and we struggle to pay our employees' wages and our rates, rent and insurance. It is...
- Seanad: Financial Provisions (Covid-19) Bill 2020: Second Stage (16 Jul 2020)
Catherine Ardagh: I congratulate the Leas-Chathaoirleach again on his election to that position. I wish him well. It is a super privilege for him and his family. I refer to the legislation before the House today and the European Union's aid towards member states. The European Union was set up to create peace in European countries. In recent years, we have all questioned Europe's role in Ireland, and the...
