Jim Daly: The policy position adopted in 2015 to replace the two hospitals referred to by the Deputy has been officially revised and is no longer HSE or Government policy relating to these hospitals, as I advised the Deputy at a meeting on the 7th of November last. Jim Daly: I thank Senators for their input to date. We are back to Report Stage on the amendment of a Bill that originated in this House and has been accepted in the Dáil. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (14 Nov 2018)

Jim Daly: The Deputy's diagnosis, for want of a better term, is one with which I could not agree more. Everybody in the room accepts that there are difficulties, challenges, waiting lists and unacceptable delays in front-line services and it is a case of what we are going to do about it and how we are going to approach it. There is no quick-fix answer.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (14 Nov 2018)

Jim Daly: I might finish addressing the point the Deputy made about all of those difficulties and challenges. While it is probably too late, there is at least a direction, focus and investment under the overall Sláintecare framework. This year, more than ever, one can see the alignment with Sláintecare. Into 2019, as the service plan is developed, there will be more emphasis on lowering...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (14 Nov 2018)

Jim Daly: There was an additional aspect of the Deputy's question which was the reference to catastrophic failures which makes it more difficult. I can provide the Deputy with an answer on whether people have been dismissed from the service in the past 12 months and the reasons for those dismissals will be manifold, individual and unique. We cannot say these people were dismissed because of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (14 Nov 2018)

Jim Daly: Yes, and the answer to that is "No". To the best of my knowledge, no one has been dismissed for the litany the Deputy terms catastrophic failures.
