- Order of Business (20 May 2009)
Eamon Gilmore: There are issues that the House will need to debate, particularly on the role of the Department of Education and Science in respect of its responsibilities then and the agreement made more recently with the congregations on redress and its cost to the taxpayer. I would like an opportunity provided at an early stage for a debate on this report, which will shock many people when it is...

- Order of Business (21 May 2009)
Eamon Gilmore: I join Deputy Bruton in making the same request before agreeing to the Order of Business this morning. The report, which has now been made available, is shocking in what it tells us about a very shameful period in Irish history. The report outlines the stories of more than 1,000 victims and how they were sexually abused in many cases, how the sexual abusers were protected and moved from one...

- Order of Business (21 May 2009)
Eamon Gilmore: I note that the two Green Party Ministers are not present for this morning's Order of Business.
- Order of Business (21 May 2009)
Eamon Gilmore: There is nothing particularly unusual about that because they are rarely present for the Order of Business. I ask the Tánaiste whether they are attending the launch of the Green Party's election manifesto, which was scheduled for 10.15 a.m. this morning. If that is the case, it brings the Green Party Ministers' disregard for this House to a new level of contempt.

- Leaders' Questions (26 May 2009)
Eamon Gilmore: The Labour Party is willing to co-operate in agreeing a joint motion and having a non-partisan and non-adversarial discussion of this report, its conclusions and the steps needed to be taken and the lessons learned from it. No amount of compensation will ever compensate the victims for what they have suffered. No motion of this House will ever undo the damage done. No words spoken in here...
- Leaders' Questions (26 May 2009)
Eamon Gilmore: Why did Ministers and senior officials in Departments turn a blind eye? Why did gardaà or those in communities who heard of these abuses turn a blind eye? A clue to this is to be found in recent comments made by the Taoiseach's predecessor, Deputy Bertie Ahern, and the former Minister for Education and Science, Deputy Michael Woods. In the case of Deputy Bertie Ahern, he has accused those...
- Leaders' Questions (26 May 2009)
Eamon Gilmore: Will the Taoiseach, perhaps with the Minister for Education and Science, call in the religious orders to discuss these matters?
