- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages and Differential Pricing in Insurance: Discussion (19 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: Would that be very difficult to prove? I am a certain age and live at a certain address and I am not told if there is a premium or loading for that. If I provide my details on the various insurance websites, they come up with very different figures. I am the same person, only a little older with a slightly older car, and I am not driving any more or less than I did previously. Different...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages and Differential Pricing in Insurance: Discussion (19 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: I am trying to give Mr. Deering a hypothetical situation. It could be twin brothers who apply to the same company with the same driving history, the same age and the same general profile yet one gets a different price to the other. One might be charged €400 and the other might be charged €700. What is the difference? That might be the only case that could be compared easily....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages and Differential Pricing in Insurance: Discussion (19 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: I wish Mr. Deering the best with that work. It is not my agenda to give him a lot of extra work to do. I thank him for the work he is doing because it is clear that he is opening and closing cases.
- Seanad: Death of Former Member: Expressions of Sympathy (20 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: Not all of us.
- Seanad: Death of Former Member: Expressions of Sympathy (20 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: I will try not to be too repetitive but there are certain things I would like to mention about Rory. I welcome his family and I want to remember him and, indeed, his late wife. I have been at a number of these tributes since I became a Member of the Seanad in April 2016 and I have never seen so many people, including so many former Members, in the Visitors Gallery, or current Members...
- Seanad: Death of Former Member: Expressions of Sympathy (20 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: That was the point. I did not realise it but it certainly became apparent that he knew a bit more about me than I thought he did. He was in great form. He knew everything about everything - farming, horse racing and Limerick. My local publican happens to be Charlie Chawke, so all kinds of connections were brought in there. It should never be underestimated that to become Cathaoirleach is...

Dáil Éireann has passed the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons Bill 2019, to which the agreement of Seanad Éireann is desired.
- Seanad: Regulated Professions (Health and Social Care) (Amendment) Bill 2019: Second Stage (21 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: When is it proposed to take Committee Stage?
- Seanad: Regulated Professions (Health and Social Care) (Amendment) Bill 2019: Second Stage (21 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: When is it proposed to sit again?
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: Is that a promise?
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: The debate on last year's Finance Bill was relatively short. I will be opposing the amendment to the Order of Business. I find it slightly hard to take that a group which has spent 100 hours plus opposing the Judicial Appointments Commission Bill is now in a rush to have a debate on it and to have that debate taken before debates on other matters.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: It is completely accurate.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: Senators are asking that it be rushed into the Chamber despite that they spent over 100 hours opposing it.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: My problem is that-----
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: I know exactly what I am talking about.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: I am making the point, validly, that the people who are proposing the amendment to the Order of Business to rush the Judicial Appointments Commission Bill into the House at 4.45 p.m. are the same individuals who have spent hundreds of hours and approximately a year and a half opposing it. That is fine. I have opposed the Bill too. I have no problem with them opposing the Bill, but I find...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: I have the floor.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: On another point which I raised last week, we were all supportive of the Moorhead report being published. Again, I am not pushing an amendment on the matter and I am aware that it will be before an the Joint Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government tomorrow. However, it must be published because we need sight of it.We need the councillors of Ireland to see what is on offer. It...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: It is important that we see it and that we debate it as soon as possible in the House after it is published. I hope the Leader can find out from the Minister when we will see that. We cannot leave the next issue unsaid. The story of the printer in the Houses of the Oireachtas is unfortunate. It is not something any of us caused.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)
Gerry Horkan: I accept that. People say this is in Leinster House when we all know it is across the road in Kildare House.
