- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: I have received a tremendous response to last night's "Oireachtas Report". The Holy See has been a friend of Ireland from the very start but we are proposing to close our embassy there nevertheless.
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: I am discussing it again today.
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: I am discussing it in the context of the Israeli situation. There is a contradiction here. We are leaving the Irish Embassy in Tel Aviv open even though that country is not a friend of Ireland, or of Irish citizens. The people in question have been strip-searched and photographed naked. Those photographs could be shown wherever certain people might want them to be shown.

Terry Leyden: I am. I do not agree with Senator Sheahan in this regard. A former Member of the Oireachtas, Chris Andrews, is out there, as are two Sinn Féin councillors, a Socialist Party MEP and a former rugby player. They are very honourable Irish people. They went out there with the right motivation.
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: We should be honest about it. They did not go out there with anything other than good motives.
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: I will make another suggestion at this stage. I was the convener of the Friends of Palestine group, the outgoing chairman of which is now the President-elect of this country. If the 14 people in question are not released, I will call on the President to make a statement in his inaugural address on Friday-----

- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: I second the amendment to the Order of Business proposed by Senator O'Brien. I compliment him on pushing the issue every morning. He is highlighting the thousands of mortgage holders who are expecting and would relish the chance to have their interest rates reduced coming up to Christmas. It is up to the Government to address this issue. We were disturbed by the comments of the Minister,...
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: I have asked for the Tánaiste to attend the House to discuss the issue. The situation is no longer reasonable. The facilities are available to us as an independent state. We can expel the ambassador but it is better to use diplomatic missions. The Tánaiste should fly to Tel Aviv and bring our 14 honourable and brave people home. They are being treated in an abominable fashion by the...

- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: I ask the Leader to arrange for the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Deputy Hogan, to come to the House to consider my proposal that he give consideration to the postponement of the review of county development plans on the basis of vast savings for councils at this difficult time. From my experience as an architect, very little development will take place over...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2011)
Terry Leyden: I had a brief discussion with the Minister and he is very anxious to get the submission. I ask the Leader to invite the Minister to the House. There is vast experience in the House on this issue. It is, I hope, a helpful suggestion to the Government which would save a considerable amount of money and, in the circumstances, I feel it is worthwhile. As part of a constructive and very...
