Paul Coghlan: Taxpayers are exposed to the tune of €54 million because of what has happened in Newbridge. The people's trust has undoubtedly been betrayed. It would appear to me that it was reckless lending that forced the State bailout. It is not good enough. We have to hear more from the Central Bank on the issue, which is something that we should pursue later.

Paul Coghlan: I was slightly amused by Senator Darragh O'Brien's remarks. We all welcome the ECB interest rate reduction, but I must inform the Senator that we cannot continue to babysit or micro-manage the banks. The banks are independent and they must become profitable again in order that the State can be paid all of it money it is owed.
