- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Driver Licences (3 Mar 2022)
Michael Fitzmaurice: I thank the Minister of State for her reply. Where I am coming from is that the three-year licence costs €35. It is cheaper than the €55 for a ten-year licence, but within that the ten-year period, these people have to take out four three-year licence, so they actually paying approximately €140 or €145. That is not the issue, however. It is not about whether it...
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Driver Licences (3 Mar 2022)
Michael Fitzmaurice: I thank the Minister of State for her reply. I wish to clarify one matter, please. Did the Minister of State state that if the GP says the person is okay to drive longer than the three years, that that is acceptable as I may have picked her up wrong on that point? I welcome what the Minister of State said and I ask her to focus on this because there are many people who, unfortunately,...

In Ireland, meanwhile, the price quoted for green diesel, which goes into a tractor, is €1.40, kerosene is €1.35, white diesel is between €1.85 and €2, in some places around Dublin, and petrol has gone up to €2.05. I understand that we have reserves in Cork. Are we going to do something about this situation?...

- Financial Resolution: Excise (9 Mar 2022)
Michael Fitzmaurice: First, the genius of a Minister who told people to slow down today would want to hurry up or get faster in government at making decisions with the situation that is evolving at present. I support what the Minister is doing tonight. It is the first step of the stairs, but, by God, he has a few more steps to go over the coming weeks because the people are desperate. The reality is that there...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: CRISPR-Cas9 Gene Editing: Discussion (9 Mar 2022)
Michael Fitzmaurice: I thank the witnesses for attending. I have several questions. Perhaps these are myths but these things need to be talked about. I have heard that in America, going back many years, companies would have modified corn. The farmer had to sew it under licence and if some of it was brought to the next field on the wind, the farmer was tied into having to pay a fee even though they might not...

Michael Fitzmaurice: I thank both groups for attending. I wish Dr. Frank O'Mara the best of luck. I presume our paths will cross fairly often. Dr. Mullins and Dr. O'Mara spoke about genetics. Dr. O'Mara might be able to answer this question. We have been able to make progress with genetics on the cattle side, although some might say it has gone too far. We have bred better cattle in many cases. Can Dr....

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: CRISPR-Cas9 Gene Editing: Discussion (9 Mar 2022)
Michael Fitzmaurice: Dr. Mullins spoke about crops being grown that needed two sprays while others needed ten. Will he elaborate on that as I cannot get my head around it. Generally, farmers would follow weather forecasts and be advised to spray potato crops to protect against blight. How does Dr. Mullins know not to spray at those times compared with every other farmer?
