Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Disabled Drivers and Passengers Scheme (26 Sep 2019)

Thomas Pringle: My question relates to the primary medical certificate and its operation within the Department of Finance. In particular, the Ombudsman's office has asked the Department to review and amend the scheme to make it more workable. The scheme is very restrictive and very difficult for people and there is an onus on the Department to respond to the Ombudsman and amend it.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Disabled Drivers and Passengers Scheme (26 Sep 2019)

Thomas Pringle: The Minister's outline of the scheme's criteria shows clearly that it needs to be reviewed. It is not realistic, in the current climate, for this situation to persist. I deal with people every day who need this scheme and who would avail of it but they cannot satisfy the crazy and restrictive criteria that were probably set out in the early 1970s. It is similar to why the Minister will not...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Disabled Drivers and Passengers Scheme (26 Sep 2019)

Thomas Pringle: I will explain the situation of some people who I deal with who cannot avail of this scheme. There are patients with severe Parkinson's disease, bowel cancer, arthritis or permanent nerve damage from alcoholism. There is one woman who is unable to walk unaided and can only use a wheelchair occasionally due to a lack of strength in her arms and legs. She lives in the middle of nowhere with...

Financial Resolutions - Budget Statement 2020 (8 Oct 2019)

Thomas Pringle: I will share time with Deputy Thomas P. Broughan. We will hopefully fill the time. This budget shows that Brexit has been a godsend for the Government. There is no doubt that Brexit will cause difficulties for us, but it is how we go about dealing with that crisis that is important. It will show the measure of the State and the condition of our economy and politics when we see who is...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Hydraulic Fracturing Exploration: Discussion (9 Oct 2019)

Thomas Pringle: I thank our guests for their contributions. I have four quick questions. The first is to Ms Walsh. She may know the answer from the situation in the US, but approximately how many full-time jobs would result from an LNG terminal being built?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Hydraulic Fracturing Exploration: Discussion (9 Oct 2019)

Thomas Pringle: My second question is to Professor Howarth. It is more a political than a scientific question. I read today that in the 1960s the United States - and the President of the United States - knew about climate change. That is from reports that came through from the US. The question is about the effect of lobbying, and money, and how that delays change and responses to issues. What is the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Hydraulic Fracturing Exploration: Discussion (9 Oct 2019)

Thomas Pringle: My next question is to Professor McMullin and Dr. Deane. Can they justify how energy security squares with the Paris Agreement in terms of LNG and the way energy security works?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Hydraulic Fracturing Exploration: Discussion (9 Oct 2019)

Thomas Pringle: My final question is to Mr. McElligott. On PCI status, he mentioned that he had got what he thought was a positive response from the Minister last week; he should emphasise the word "thought". Mr. McElligott is saying the Minister is willing to ask the people who did not do something about this if the project complies with the PCI regulation? The question is about sustainability.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Hydraulic Fracturing Exploration: Discussion (9 Oct 2019)

Thomas Pringle: I ask Mr. McElligott to take them to the European Court of Justice because that is the only place the matter will be solved. The Minister or the European Commission will not solve it. Only the European Court of Justice will solve it.
