Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)

Imelda Munster: That is incredibly hard to believe. The NTA and Bus Éireann have been meeting regularly over the past months discussing this very crisis. How could the company define its financial crisis for 2014, 2015 and 2016 without giving a breakdown of the cause of its financial crisis? Did the NTA not ask what routes were loss-making and when those routes started to lose money?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)

Imelda Munster: We might have to go down the freedom of information route because it is incredible that there is such a reluctance to give a commitment to carry out a review. This has played a significant part in the development of this financial crisis in the first place. I have never witnessed anything like this.

Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government: Social and Affordable Housing Funding (23 Feb 2017)

Imelda Munster: 23. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government if he will provide funding for the roll-out of a social housing building programme on lands in County Louth in view of the fact that there are almost 54 acres of council owned land banks in County Louth, 20 acres of which are in Drogheda, and have lain idle for over a decade; when this will take place in view of the...

Written Answers — Department of Health: Drugs Payment Scheme Administration (23 Feb 2017)

Imelda Munster: 316. To ask the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to a policy change or a directive sent from the HSE to pharmacies advising that persons are to collect their medications on a weekly basis, rather than a monthly basis, despite the fact that most prescriptions are monthly; if pharmacies can charge for four dispensing fees a month under this scheme; and if he will make a...

Questions on Promised Legislation (28 Feb 2017)

Imelda Munster: I wish to raise the issue of social and health care provision under the programme for Government, particularly in respect of respite services at St. John of God, Drumcar, County Louth, which now only accepts one wheelchair user at any given time. The reason given is that the service only has one hoist. This respite and residential service provider is in receipt of €130 million of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Éireann: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2017)

Imelda Munster: I would like the Minister to accept that there were four contributory factors to this financial crisis. The first was the lack of subvention. The subvention to our public transport network is the lowest in Europe. The second was the deliberate saturation of routes. The third was the gross underfunding of the free travel scheme whereby just 41% of the average journey fare is covered. The...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Éireann: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2017)

Imelda Munster: I ask the Minister to give detail on the NTA service replacement on the portion of the Dublin to Clonmel route. The NTA has repeatedly stated that it leaves no rural community behind. However, it is talking about removing an existing service and replacing it with another that will also cost money - perhaps even more. There is no logic to that. The Minister had previously said that...
