Ruth Coppinger: The British Pregnancy Advisory Service released figures estimating that one in three women will have an abortion in their lifetime. It is regrettable to see no women politicians on the other side of the House. Let us suppose this figure is true. I call on the Minister to think of the number of male Government politicians whose wives, partners, daughters, sisters, aunts and even mistresses...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: General Scheme of the Planning and Development (No. 1) Bill 2014 (16 Dec 2014)

Ruth Coppinger: I am somewhat mystified by the Bill because we are discussing it in the context of two ongoing processes. First, we have the biggest housing emergency in the history of the State and we urgently need social housing on a mass scale. Second, house prices are rising faster than they did during the boom. What is being proposed in this Bill will reduce the proportion of social housing from 20%...

Will the Minister clarify which type of plebiscite he is planning on holding? The reality is...

Our model is actually from the United Kingdom and it is much more likely the Government will go down the same road the UK did.
